If you or your organization need more information, please call my constituency office at 697- 1501 or(LD) 1-800-661-2433. 1 want to thank the people who attended our Roundtable on education last Thursday. This forum was the second, in this scries of information sessions. sessions. We discussed educational governance and funding, as well as secondary school reform. reform. Anyone who wants to speak to me on this very important important issue, please call. In the coming weeks, the issue of boundaries will come up. During the Sweeney report discussions, many people made it clear that they do not want to be part of the Durham Board. Both chairs of the Northumberland Northumberland and Clarington and the Durham Public Board of Education Education have expressed their opposition opposition to Crombie's recommendation recommendation that school board boundaries be complimentary with the municipal boundaries. I find this rather confusing as the Durham Board just received received the much praised, Bertelsmann Bertelsmann Award for excellence. excellence. The Northumberland Board of Education is also very well regarded by those parents who call my office. I want to hear from you as to which board you want to oversee oversee your child's education, From my view, it all starts with your child, their teacher and their school. There are often often too few resources left for the classroom and that is wrong. I believe that our elected elected trustees in both boards do a good job, as currently mandated. mandated. However, with the funding and governance changes, per haps there needs to be more informed informed discussion on the boundary boundary issue. Besides our emotional attachments, we have to realize that we are in the Region of Durham and this area has common services in matters such as police, public health and daycare and it seems to function well. It might be a good idea for our local newspapers to educate the readers and then take a poll to determine the future once the ground rules are announced. announced. I hope you, don't find ; my column repetitive, but education education is a very, very important issue and I want to support the wishes of my constituents. December 10th is International International Day of Human Rights. The United Nations, 48 years ago came together to recognize the inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family family as the foundation of freedom, freedom, justice and peace in the world. As I read, watch the news and listen to the social justice debate, I am reminded of how good we have it in Ontario and indeed Canada. There are still those who need protection even in Canada. Each one of us with a good paying job has a duty to be charitable to others and less selfish when lobbying to protect protect "our turf'. At Queen's Park, I am always mindful of my duties of fairness fairness to all. Governments are often judged by how we care for our most vulnerable in society. society. Those with the loudest voices, are often reluctant to give up their privileges. There is much merit in the principle of the greatest good for the greatest number. We must always always remember that we are our brother's keeper. ArlvAA Edvan Realty Ltd. ^ uv ~ m King St. E., Bowmanville REALTY LTD. DO YOU KNOW WHfiT YOtiR PROPERTY IS WORTH?
