Hampton Card party with News from Elizàbethville by Edna Thickson This week the United Church Unit II held their meeting at Irene Beatty's home. The president, Bertha Trew, opened the meeting with worship service and read a piece on "Love Yourself'. Scriptures from Ephesians 1- 16 followed with a hymn and some meditation. Susan Peacock spoke on the annual meeting at the Port Hope United Church which she had attended. A reading on Saint Valentine was given by Susan Peacock. The meeting meeting was closed with a Benediction Benediction and a lunch afterwards. afterwards. On Thursday the seniors were at a meeting at the Hope Township with a very good crowd attending. On the Friday evening at Garden Hill Church a Talent Show was put on by both churches, Garden Hill and Elizàbethville. On Sunday it wasn't as nice a day as we had been having, but a number of smaller children were there. Reverend Sedgwick welcomed welcomed all and went on with the service. The first lesson was taken from Genesis 9: 8- 16. The choir sang a hymn from our new hymn books, with the congregation singing the chorus. The second lesson was from Mark 1:9-15. Reverend Sedgwick spoke on "Covenant of Promise". After the service Bible Study was held. 5 1/2 tables: high, Agnes Schofield, Ace Richards, Les Kantor, Pat Porrill, Barb Cochrane. Cochrane. Draws were won by Les Kantor, Alice Beech, Agnes Schofield, Schofield, Ada Richards and Dorothy Dorothy Beech. No card party at Hampton on February 26 but will return return on March 5. See you there!! The rural bowling report from Peter Coombes: Leading Leading the pack are the Hi C's with 55 points. They could have done better, but father Jim left some comer pins. Hampton is in second place with 45 points and Solina right on their heels with 45 points. If you take 4 points every night until playoffs you will be on top, so go after them!!! Don't forget the Eldad Stewards' bake sale on February February 28, at the Bowmanville Mall.
