Richards Staff Writer A more fitting tribute to the glorious daylily could not be found during the plant's 400th anniversary than a full-colour book devoted to the flower. More impressive is the fact that a decade of work by two local hybridizers is the focus of the book 'Daylilies' by Norman S. Track, to be launched on Sunday, March 2 at the Orono Town Hall between two and four p.m. during during an open house. Doug Lycett and Henry Lorrain of "We're In The Hayfield Now,' located on Pollard Road, have been grow the book would give it a certain glamour. Both Henry and Doug are anxious to sec the final product this coming week. "You know, all these things have come to us, we didn't contact anyone," Doug explained. It all began with a call on Doug and Henry's answering machine. "We had a phone call from this man telling us that he wanted to do a book on our flowers," Doug recalled. When he returned Norman Track's call, he got the whole story. Norman had been discussing discussing the idea of doing a book on irises with a contact Daylily hybridizers Doug Lycett and Henry Lorrain are the i( i subject of a book by photographer Norman S. The two have been fortunate over the past two years to have been featured in Chatelaine's 'Gardens' Spring 1996 edition edition and to have met a photographer interested in their work. To put it simply, Doug and Henry are absolutely thrilled that this project is finally ready for the public. "We won't be making any money off of it," Doug said. But, the photographer photographer who has been working on this for two years is finally seeing fruition, so to speak. Photographer Norman S. Track's photos of the daylilies and the entire gardens were able to bring out vividness of the colours Doug and Henry have sought to bring out in their flowers. Last year's feature in Chatelaine Gardens showed the business business part ners' blooms to their best advantage. Those photographs were also Track's. Over 60 full-colour photographs grace the almost 100-page book which is bound to embellish any bookshelf or coffee coffee table it rests on. "We really believe in the project and will do what we can to promote it," said Henry. That's "We won't be are making any money off it." --Doug Lycett CIMPLEX ODEON ( INF MAO I IDF Clarington Place Cinemas BOWMANVILLE I v»i X MO "A, MATiMFfcS Sl^99 /vA/x I M if f • . $^99 STILL 1/2 PRICE TUESDAY*ONLY 5 4" SHOWTIMES EFFECTIVE FEB 28- MAR 6 1997 fliat Darn Cat (F) 6:30, 8:30; Sat.- Sun. The John Howard Society operates two residences in Durham -- one in Oshawa and one in Whitby. The residence residence in Whitby provides a structured environment for male youths aged 16 to 24 who, for one reason or another, another, cannot live at home.
