Both teams came out hustling hustling in the first period, but neither could find the net. Glen Steward erupted for three goals in the second to Skylight's one. Each team scored twice in the third, making the final 5-3 in favour Jeff Collins. Skylight would nurse this lead late into the second period when Dave McClinton scored from Kilt and Collins to supply some breathing space. Skylight Donuts broke the game open early in the third by scoring twice - Mike Wood from Kilt and Jamie Tabb, as well as John Kinghan from Ki ft and Cuthbertson. Darlington Auto scored late in the game to lake away Skylight's bid for the shutout. With two games remaining in league play, Skylight Bantams can now clinch first place and look forward to the playoffs. i of Glen Steward. Ian Cuthbertson got Skylight Donuts on the board early in the first period on a point shot set up nicely by Bill Kift and GA Midgets Control Horners The IGA Midgets, after two previous outings that were less thaa impressive, came out of the gates flying against Horner's. Scott Slack opened the scoring with a hard wrist shot at the 16- second mark, unassisted, on a take away from Horner's defence. Chris Watson, shortly afterwards, went end-to-end, scoring with a low shot to the corner. Mike McCrory rounded out the scoring in the first period on a nice pass from Paul Drummond. In the second period, IGA continued their control as Paul Marchant scored from Chris Henry. Jason Knox followed on a behind the back pass from Paul Drummond. Newcastle Club Earns a Tie and a Victory in Exciting Playoff Games On Thursday, February 20, Newcastle travelled to Baltimore to play their third game of the playoffs. Newcastle drew first flood with Jeffrey Frenette scoring on a set-up from Andrew Weckerle and Michael Toushan. Camden Matthews T-Mac Oldtimers Settle for 5-5 Tie Friday, February 21, T- Mac Insulation Oldtimers visited McIntosh Chrysler, in Oshawa and recorded our fifth tie of the season. This 5-5 stalemate was the result of three late goals in the span of seven minutes. John Allen with .two, John Vesters, Paul. McCluslcy and Gerry Snowden with a nice end-to-end solo effort scored for our side. Sunday, February 23, we entertained a Pickering Hydro team, and although a big age differential was apparent, we gave them a good game, coming up on the short end of a 5-3 loss. Dan Wilcox came off the injury list and played a solid game for the visitors with Jim Boyd also turning in a good effort for our team. John Vesters, John Allen and Tom Fennel, with a hard wrist shot to the top corner, scored our goals. put Newcastle up 2-0 scoring on a Jeffrey Frenette feed. Baltimore replied with two quick goals at the start of the second to even the score. In the dying seconds of the second, Jeffrey Frenette con- . verted a Karen Wiltshire pass to restore the Newcastle lead at 3-2. Baltimore scored the only goal of the third with the two talented clubs ending the game in a 3-3 draw. Great offensive hustle was shown by Matthew Scatterty, Michael Vossen and Kyle McLeod. On Saturday, February 22, Newcastle played host to Grafton #1. Kyle Whealy scored, the first two goals for Newcastle, notching an unassisted unassisted marker in the first, and then scoring on a breakaway in the second. Michael Toushan scored Newcastle's final goal in the third to seal Newcastle's 3-0 victory. Paul Shkordoff picked up a well earned shutout, but did not do it alone: He was supported by the strong defensive efforts of stalwarts Craig Procknow, Ian Brash, Tyler Watchorn, James Parks and Paul Ferguson. As the playoffs continue, Newcastle appears to be peaking.
