Worden School in Courtice with a reading from a book about Wayne Gretzky last week. He was among about a dozen special guests who read to the students as part of a celebrity reading program sponsored by the Literacy Council of Durham Region. A few of the other guests included CFTO anchorman Ken Shaw; MP Alex Shepherd; author and aviator Bill Lishman; and story-teller Sher Leetooze. Each guest read a favorite passage and discussed the importance of reading in their life. Afterwards, the Generals captain signed autographs for the many young hockey fans in the crowd. The reading took place February 28th. 0MHA Playoff Lead Slips Away on Midget Toros After getting a 5-3 points lead on the Peterborough Nationals, the CNC/Sound Master Toros let it slip away in a six game series and now look ahead to a home-and- home contest with Oshawa, Ajax and Belleville. Things are not going the Toros way as they lost both games to Oshawa 5-2 and 6- 2. Scoring for the Toros were Dan MacDonald, unassisted, and Darryl Wright from Chris Baumhauer and Ryan Winning. Brian Ball got a nice feed from Craig Sabine after Eric Griffin dug it out of the corner. Darryl Wright got the last goal of the series assisted by Ni ko Anastassaki and Dan MacDonald. T-Mac Beats The Kinks On Thursday, February 27 T-Mac Insulation Oldtimers visited the Bowmanville Arena to play the Kinks Oldtimers. After a tight checking first period, they skated away with an .11-3 victory. It was John Vesters, again, leading the way with five goals, Gerry Snowden was right behind with four (one on a penalty shot) to account for most of the scoring, Ken Hammond and Brad Godfrey scored one each. Sunday, March 2, we had a return game with the Kinks at Darlington and the results were the same as we came out on top with an 11-3 win. Huck Balson set the tempo of this game scoring a nifty goal on the first shift of the game. Ken Hammond sparked our offense with three goals, Phil Solomon and Tom Fennel had two, and Gerry Snowden, Mike Hewer and John Vesters one each. Newcastle Atoms Open Semi-Finals, Against Tweed The Newcastle Esso- Harvey's Atoms will open their OMHA semi-final series on home ice Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. against Tweed.
