President Carol Mostert welcomed everybody to the meeting and we opened the meeting with the singing of O Canada. Carol read a poem in remembrance of our dear friend Edith Taylor. This was followed by a moment's silence in Edith's memory. Guest speaker Judy Hurvid gave an excellent presentation on the Ecology Garden at Bowmanville High School. Submitted by Lomci Atkins President's Award Dorothy and Derek Barnett were recognized by the Orono Horticultural Society last week for their outstanding service to the Society. They received the President's Award from Carol Mostert (right) at a meeting in the Orono United Church on Thursday, March 20th. is May 11. This popular exhibition features works executed in oil, watercolour, acrylic, pastel pastel and mixed media. Paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture are included. All entries are from members of the Association or from residents of Durham Region. Jurors for the exhibition are Denis Cliff, John Leonard, and Margaret Roseman. The Oshawa Art Association's memberships, comprising artists of all ages and levels of expertise, currently currently exceeds 200 members. The Association meets monthly. For further information on Association membership and Millbrook Maplefest April 5-6 The Millbrook Maplefest is happening again on April 5th and 6th. And it promises lots of fun for the whole family- family- There will be a host of events taking place including the School Council Flea Market, the Millbrook Merchant's Sidewalk Sale and tours of the Fire Fighters Museum. There will be art exhibits at the Loretta Pompilio Fine Art Gallery and the Millbrook Gallery. On Saturday evening there will be a concert presented by the Give a Hoot Cafe at the Old School featuring "Skein". Up in the Kennedy's Sugarbush, there will be pony rides, a petting zoo and horse drawn wagon rides as well as tours of the Sugar Shack and old time fiddle music provided provided by "Messy Farguson". On Saturday the Pancake Breakfast will be hosted by the Millbrook Legion in the village and on Sunday the Breakfast will be served by the Millbrook Lions Club at the Lions Den north of the village on County Road 10. The cost is $3.50 per adult and $2.00 for children under twelve years of age. The festivities run from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday April 5th and 6th.
