During that time, our officers were targeting targeting motorists who neglected to wear their scat belts or who failed to properly secure children in child restraints. Seat belts and child restraint systems continue to be the number one factor in preventing injuries and deaths in motor vehicle collisions. The following offenders were charged: Four hundred and sixty-one drivers were charged for failing to wear scat belts and 38 passengers were charged for not wearing scat bells. In addition, IS drivers were charged for failing to ensure that their passengers under the age of 16 were properly secured and eight people were also charged with having inoperative inoperative or defective scat belts. This represents 525 people who placed themselves or their passengers at risk for failing failing to obey scat bell laws. The line for these offences is $105.00 each, plus two demerit points.
