Marie Spoelstra, of DCHS, opened the scoring in the first two minutes of the game on a penalty kick, then Sommer West, of BHS, evened the score on a penalty kick of her own. Shortly after, Shannon Dunlop gave Bowmanville a 2-1 lead, but it was shortlived shortlived as Spoelstra scored her second of the game a few minutes later to even the game once again. That was it for the scoring as both teams failed to capitalize capitalize on their chances in the second half. Jessica Lunshof and Tina Koopmans, of DCHS, had the best chances in the second half as they were stopped on a breakaway and shot just wide, respectively, late in the game. BHS was at a disadvantage from the start as Kate Barrie, a defensive midfielder was forced to play goal, when reg ular goalkeeper Katie Deighan hurt her knee playing playing baseball the night before. "Kate did a good job filling filling in for Katie, but we could've played better. We were sloppy," BHS head coach John Morris said following following the game. Bernice Embree, whose DCHS squad was beaten by McLaughlin 4-0 the day before, was glad to play on the field at BHS. "The size of their field compared to ours makes a big difference," she said. "We were able to make our passes and play our game on this field, but McLaughlin's a better better skilled team and it showed."
