Outstanding Junior Citizens Billy Stacey, age 12, (left) and Jamie Wilson, 11, were presented presented with their 1996 Ontario Junior Citizen Awards from Lieutenant Governor Hilary Weston at a ceremony in Toronto on April 4. The two students from Dr. Ross Tilley School in Bowmanville risked their own lives to rescue a six-year-old schoolmate from a rain-swollen creek last September. The boys did not hesitate to help the victim when they saw him swept off his feet in the fast-flowing water. Billy and Jamie were were praised for their bravery and unselfish attitudes and declared to be "true heroes." They were among youths from across Ontario who received Junior Citizen Awards sponsored by the Ontario Community Newspapers Association to recognize recognize the efforts of outstanding young people.
