The end result has been that farmers are upgrading their fuel storages to make them safer and meet the regulations. In some cases a roof has been installed over the dike area to keep rain and snow out. These roofs must be made of noncombustible noncombustible material and the area well ventilated. It is possible to close in up to three sides for added weather protection, protection, but precautions must be taken. If three sides are closed in, the tank vent must be extended above the roof line so that fumes do not build up inside the dike and create a safety hazard. Also, the tank must be easily accessible for refilling by the fuel delivery agent.
