Barbecue for Bone Marrow Donorship Mark Williams and Garnet Wheadon were the chefs on hand at the first RCMP barbecue held Thursday, Aug. 7, at the RCMP building on Baseline Road, Bowmanville. The cook- out was in support of an officer's daughter who is in need of a bone marrow transplant and of the Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society. Sgt. Ian Pole, of the RCMP's Customs and Excise Section, says the barbecue is' "to let people know about the need and to educate them." Pole says this is just one of a series of fund-raising opportunities available over the next several several months. The weekly barbecues will continue each Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. until mid-September. There is a yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 6. Residents may call 697-6001 to donate money, and to pledge donations towards a head-shaving event to take place soon. Pole would like to thank the following companies for their contributions to the event: Pineridge Rental for the sign, the new East Side Mario's for ice, The Great Canadian Meat Company of Whitby for the truck and sausages and hot dogs, The Baker's Table for the baked goods, The 5th Wheel for propane and Graham's IGA which supplied the relishes and other barbecùe toppings.
