Hospice Week October 13 -19,1997 T What attracts almost-8,000 volunteers to a movement that deals with the most difficult issue facing our society? society? If you guessed the hospice movement - you were right. If you have no idea what hospice is, you've got plenty of company. Hospice is not a place - it is a concept of care. Hospice care helps people with life-threatening illnesses live at home as comfortably and as fully as possible. The focus is on caring, not curing and on life ,and death. Hospice care also extends to friends and family members, members, helping them to care for their loved one and to care for themselves during times of grief. Hospice Durham is one example of the movement's success here in our community. Last year, nearly 100 volunteers helped people in our community with the companionship and practical help they needed in travelling travelling that final road. Hospice care is compassionate, dignified - and probably probably one of the least-known resources in our community- community- If you or someone you know could benefit from the work of Hospice Durham, or if you would like to find out how you can help, please contact Hospice Durham at (905) 435-5242 or 1-888-790-9414.
