According to the Municipal Elections Act, it is illegal to do otherwise. otherwise. "If people vote more than once, when they arc caught, they are eligible to be fined up to $5,000," said Barrie. Voters who try to vole more than once could be caught by travelling scrutineers scrutineers or they could be discovered if a recount is called and the voting boxes are opened up. Barrie noted that the municipality counts on its residents' honesty when they have received more than one voting card. Last Thursday, Oct. 29, Barrie told The Statesman some people may receive more than one card if they own property in more than one ward. That's because "the voter's list is generated generated by the assessment roll." "We're counting on their honesty on voting day," she said. However, persons who own property in more than one municipality are entitled entitled to cast more than one ballot on election day. That person can then vote once in each municipality municipality or township where they, own property, Barrie explained. When asked if anyone has been caught voting more than once in Clarington, Barrie replied: "I've not been made aware of people voting more than once," SsSilSfclM Yv YYy ; 1988 FORD AEROSTAR 7 pass., air, windows, locks, tilt, cruise, a great buy.
