Bill Grady, Mill St., home on Thursday past, and cousin Bruce Yeo is still a patient in hospital. Speedy get-well wishes to all! Some exciting real estate news in our area, first parts of "Lands and Forests" are sold, and now the "Old Mill", just below us is sporting a "Sold" sign. The former Curvply Wood Products are certainly certainly looking lively and looking better, also "Plydesigns" our large factory factory on Hwy 115, is moving moving along and calling back new help! All this news should make the tax people people happy! Congratulations to Mr. Harry Wade, who was recently named "Citizen of the Year", at Durham Complex! Community Care Christmas Dinner Wednesday, November 26, à large crowd of Sr.Citizens, gathered at Orono United Church, Main hall, for a delicious pre-Christmas Turkey dinner dinner and all the fixings. , Mrs. Dini Schoenmaker welcomed everyone, and gave prayer. She also thanked all who had brought food items for Clarington Food Bank. Oiur thanks to Marie and Donna and all the ladies. Our tables looked lovely with Christmas arrangements. Our entertainment entertainment was capably in charge of "Bonnie Cowle and Friends" from Bowmanville. They always produce lots of lively and inspiring music. This was quite timely for us old folks, following following a big, heavy dinner! dinner! One song in particular "Twelve Days of Christmas" proved quite hilarious, with lots of cute antics! Our thanks to all and especially Community Care for their fun times, and Season's Greetings to one and all! U.C.W. Christmas Dinner Thursday noon, November 27, the ladies of U.C.W., Orono United Church gathered in Main hall for their annual pot- luck dinner and meeting. The President Dorothy Robinson welcomed everyone and grace was sung, with Shirley Moffat at the piano. The tables looked attractive, with candles and cute table favours, compliments of ladies of "Morning Out" group. The president thanked them, and also welcomed our guests, the Earth Angels for our musical entertainment. entertainment. Following the tasty dinner, dinner, our guests favoured us with a delightful musical menu of mostly Christmas music and thoroughly enjoyed by all, The musical musical group is comprised of Mr. Manuel, pianist, Pat Lycctt, Nancy Barber, and Jamie Dodds. The president gave a report of our activities through the year, and all units gave reports. Doreen Wood gave the "In Memorium" for departed members. Donna Scott introduced our guest, Mrs. Donna Johnston our representative representative from Oshawa U.C.W., and she brought greetings and wished everyone season's season's greetings. The President read out lists of 1998 incoming executive and Mrs. Johnston did the installation installation honors, and congratulated congratulated one of our members, Bertha White, as a new Oshawa U.C.W. member for 1998. Christmas devotions were then presented by ladies of Unit #3. Christmas Carol "Away in a Manger" was sung, and Isabelle read a poem "Meaning of Christmas". MaricTamblyn gave scripture scripture reading. Isabelle closed with prayer. A very exciting event followed, with Bertha White calling Dorothy to come forward to receive her "Life Membership" pin and plaque. The Salvation Army supplies each family with a grocery box as well as a turkey, all the fixings : and enough groceries to last a couple of days. Money donations will be used to buy turkeys and to supplement the gifts that are received that day. Special envelopes will be included in next week's bulletins. Van Hemmen Tire Donates $5,700 to Defibrillator Fund The folks at Van Hemmen Tire in Whitby dropped by Fire Station #1 in Bowmanville last week to drop off a cheque for $5,700 to be used towards the defibrillator campaign. Over a six-week period, Van Hcmmen's set aside one dollar from every tire sold to help the Clarington Fire Department purchase heart defibrillators for each of its five fire stations.
