Chair After the new Durham Region Chair, Roger Anderson, was selected to his post this month, councillors councillors accepted a motion which will sec the mayors of the eight municipalities taking turns as Acting Chair. Clarington Mayor Diane Hamre will serve from June I to Aug. 31, 1999 Pickering Mayor Wayne Arthurs, who ran against Roger Anderson for the position of the chair of the region, will be the acting chair from Dec. 1, 1997 to Feb. 28, 1998. Scugog Mayor Doug Moffalt will take over from March 1 to May 31, 1997. Following him is Uxbridge Mayor Gerri- Lynn O'Connor who will be acting chair from June 1 to Aug. 31, 1997. Whitby's new mayor, Marcel Bruncllc, will be acting chair from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30, 1998. Ajax Mayor Steve Parish takes over the from Dec. 1,1998 to Feb. 28, 1999 and following following him is Brock Mayor Keith Shier from March 1 to May 31, 1999. Clarington Mayor Diane Hamre will serve as acting chair from June 1, to Aug. 31, 1999. It will her only opportunity to serve in this capacity. Following Clarington is Oshawa Mayor Nancy Diamond from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30, 1999. The RCMP Bowmanvillc Detachment has raised over $10,000 for the Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society. Various drives were organized by the detachment detachment to generate money for expensive bone marrow marrow typing. The Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society contributes directly to the Canadian Bone Marrow Donor Registry program by providing funds to cover the cost of the first level ($45 per donor) and second level ($75 per donor) testing.
