PAGE 2THE CANADIAN STATESMAN, JANUARY 19,2000 !; £ £ C* I t: Courtice man charged in fatal crash A 92-ycar-old Oshawa man is dead, and a Courtice man has been charged, after a four-car hit-and-run collision on Hwy. 401 Sunday. The accident happened at about l p.m. in the westbound lanes cast of Brock Road, Pickering. Police say a ear travelling at a high rate of speed rear-ended a 1996 Buick Regal driven by 92-ycar-old Bryan Morris of Cannonbcrry Court in Oshawa. The first car is then believed to have hit two other vehicles, says Sergeant Bob McManus of OPP Whitby. The driver of the first vehicle was not at the scene when police arrived, but 29-ycar-old John Travers of Courtice turned himself in to police later in the day. Mr. Morris was taken by ambulance ambulance to Ajax-Pickcring Health Centre Centre with head injuries, then transferred transferred to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Sciences Centre in Toronto, where he died. Mr. Travers is charged with failure failure to remain at the scene of an accident accident and driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call Whitby OPP at 905-668-3388.
