Since the season started back in mid-September, coach Mike Posavad has targeted the final 10 games as a time when he wanted his hockey club to peak and build some momentum heading into the playoffs. Evidence of doing just that started to take shape this past weekend. The Eagles grabbed three of a possible possible four points with a 4-1 win in Port Hope on Saturday night, and a come-from-bchind 5-5 tie with Wellington on home ice Sunday.' Of particular interest was the tic at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex on Sunday night. After three goals in a span of 1:56 in the second period, Wellington seemed to have the game under control with a 5-1 lead. Cue the comeback. The Eagles scored four unanswered unanswered goals -- one in the second, and three in the third period -- to tie the game 5-5. Neither team scored in overtime. fThat was a real character builder," said coach Mike Posavad of the tie, which for the Eagles, was just as satisfying satisfying as a victory. ' "This game showed tliat we can coriie back against a top team in this league. It proves we can play against a top team even if we arc down and have to come back." Heading into play this past weekend, weekend, Wellington was in second place in the Eastern Conference, 27 points ahead of the eighth-place Eagles. Another positive sign for the Eagles Eagles was the scoring depth it showed against Wellington. Although the team's leading scorer, Seth Gray, had a pair of goals -- one on the power play -- offensive production came from other welcomed sources. After falling behind 5-1, the Eagles 'rallied for a 5-5 tie. Leonard, Ryan Boyd .and Ted Marks each had a goal in the third period to spark the comeback. "We have got a lot of depth, but we don't show it at times," said Posavad. "We have a lot of players and everyone everyone is going to have to contribute. Guys arc going to have to start getting the big points or stopping a scoring chance in the defensive zone." • Above all, the most important factor factor over the weekend was getting as many points as possible as the season draws to a close. Finishing eighth would mean an opening round playoff series against Lindsay, which certainly certainly wouldn't be in the best interest of the Eagles. "We know tire points arc hard to come by this time of year, and we need points," noted Posavad.
