Lucas Holtom, the two-year-old son of the Reverend Jamie Holtom, who grew up in Oshawa and who was sponsored sponsored by Kingsview United Church as a candidate for the ministry, and Rev. Holtom's Eastdale Collegiate high school friend Lisa (Glendenning) Gourley, Gourley, 30, were killed during the brief, but violent storm. I The Pine Lake camping park, just outside Red Deer, was the site of the horrific horrific scene, where the Holtom and Gourley Gourley families were meeting for a brief reunion reunion of sorts. ! "Jamie, his wife Katrina and their two Children went for two weeks to Alberta," Says Reverend Craig Donnelly, jCingsview United minister and close friend of the Holtom family. "Jamie's brother Jason lives in Edmonton and the first week Jamie's Bramalca (the church were Rev. Holtom is minister) youth group and the youth group Jason volunteers volunteers with were to meet and work on a project. Jamie stayed an extra week with his brother and to go down to visit Lisa and her family and that is how they ended up at the trailer park." Following graduation from Eastdale in 1989, Ms. Glendenning attended Western University during which time her parents moved to Calgary. Following her studies at Western, she went west to join her mother and father. "She was very athletic, a very caring person," says Maureen Ward, who attended attended Eastdale Collegiate with Mrs. Gourley, who was married to Bill Gourley Gourley and had a one-year-old boy, Jared, The former Oshawa girl and her family were on vacation when the storm hit their campground. "She was involved working with handicapped children," . adds Mrs. Ward. "She always wanted to do that. She was just a really great nel son. It's really sad. I just had a baby and we'd been talking on the phone and there's a letter on the coffee table to her not yet sent. "She was well-liked and popular," continues Mrs. Ward. "She was doing (working with handicapped children) what she really dreamed about doing." Rev. Holtom and his wife had a second child born to them only six weeks ago, a girl named Leah. "They are shaken up and have aches and bruises, but they're going to be OK," says Rev. Donnelly of the Holtom family. family. "Many in the community are still in a state of shock and disbelief. Our hearts and prayers are extended to Jamie and his family and to Lisa's family at this time."By Sunday, the twister had claimed its tenth victim. More than 130 people were taken to hospital.
