"Our Tradition is Quality" Dollar$ & Sense with Deborah Kohlsmith Financial Consultant "Compare Apples to Apples" At this time the mutual fund industry is fast paced and is ever changing. The consolidation process is in full swing as can be witnessed by the merger of AIM and Trimark and most recently AGF's pending takeover of Global Strategy. You must keep in mind that all mutual funds are not the same. When you are looking at rates of return you must compare exactly the same types of funds. For example, the rate of return of a fund depends upon whether or not you are invested in a fixed income, growth or sector fund, etc, It is very important to consider your risk tolerance when choosing the types of mutual funds you want to invest in. You may like the high returns of a technology fund, however, would you sleep at night when that same technology fund drops significantly in value? Remember to compare apples to apples.
