February figures brought year-to-date building permits to $17,805,728, about three times more than had been issued by this time last year. So far this year, building permits permits for 90 semi-detached homes, most of which will be only attached underground, have been issued. By this time last year, only four permits had been issued for semi-detached homes. "It's simply because of the market out here," says Mayor Mutton. "Times are good out here. We have a low residential tax rate, and big city services... I think it's going to be a really good year." Teens invited to apply for summer work program Clarington students eligible to travel DURHAM - Interested in spending your summer in another province? Durham MP Alex Shepherd Shepherd and Barbara Allen- Lloyd, co-ordinator of the Summer Work-Student Exchange Exchange program, are offering offering 10 students between the ages of 16 and 17 a chance to travel to another province for six weeks during the summer. The students must be returning returning to school in September. September. This opportunity will give the students work experience experience while learning about another culture and improving improving their ability in a second language. The students will be travelling travelling to a francophone community community in either Quebec or New Brunswick where they will live with a host family. They will be working in a non-profit organization from June 30 to Aug. 8. There is no cost to participants, participants, and the program covers covers travel to and from their host'community.
