Two truck loads of school children from North Oshawa held a picnic in the local park on tS-aturday afternoon and -a pleasant time was spent. in games and swimming. When leaving- one of the trucks loaded with children, children, broke through the light bridge that spans the creek. Just as the hind wheels were nearly over, the sleeper holding up one side of the bridge broke, but the truck managed to keep going, thus preventing what might have resulted in a serious accident, accident, No one was hurt. Mr. Ghas. iSinipson, Mr. and Mrs. Janies 'Simpson and Mr. Will Simpson, Simpson, from Manitoba, are visiting with friends and relatives - in Bowmanville and Orono, and are leaving for home on Monday next, expecting to travel by way of Sudbury, SauIt. ISte. Marie, down into the States to Manitoba, having come all the way through the States to Detroit -and thence here. Mr. Oh as. Simpson reports that the crops around Altam-ont are in good condition, but that 5,000,000 acres in southern Saskatchewan are in poor shape. No fertilizer is used on the land and the land is summer fallowed fallowed about every three .years. He also stated that the west this year is in better condition than last, and since he has been here for the past month a heavy rain fell in his district which will improve his crops. DECORATION DAY On Sunday last between six and seven hundred people visited the local cemetery for Decoration Day. The cemetery was a picture to behold, with the mass of flowers that were placed on the graves. The grounds are in excellent shape, showing the careful attention given by the caretaker, Mr. Herb. Smyth, of Port Perry, and. a former minister of Park Street United United church, gave a very appropriate sermon for the occasion.
