McELROY There passed away in Nicholls Hçspital, Peterborough, on Thursday, September 30th, Dr. W. F. McEl- i'o.y. Dr. MoElroy. was an old resident of Orono, coming here from Perry- town and carried on a veterinary business for thirty years, living in the house ■ now occupied by Dr; Milne, About ten or twelve years ago he sold his practise here to Dr. Kerslake and: moved to Peterborough where he continued as a. veterinary surgeon until his demise. • He married Miss, Leta Noble, of Orono, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Da-vill Noble, from which union two children were born, Keith, now attending the University of Toronto;, and one daughter Margaret. (Service was held at his late residence, residence, 633 Charlotte Street W,, Peterborough, on Saturday, October 2nd thence the cortege motor to Orono Cemetery for burial. CHARMING ORATORY HAS MAGIC POWERS Mr. Wm. Cowan, while attending the Conservative political meeting in the town hall on Thursday evening of last week, fell asleep on a chair, then slumped forward and fell on the floor. Some of the others present rubbed to his aid thinking that he had fainted and helped him to his feet. The oratory that was, pouring forth at the time from the speakers must have acted like music to Mr. Cowan and lullabied him to sleep. There should be more pep and vigor in. thèse meetings to keep the listeners listeners from falling asleep. MOSES ROBBINS A large, number of friends and relatives relatives alluded the (funeral .of the late Mrs. Moses Bobbins (nee I Ion rivttn (liibank). on Tuesday, Sept. 28jh. The late Mrs. Robbins was born (at Kirby (in 1853, the daughter of the late Mr. :-and' Mrs, Richard Gilbank, wlio conducted a general store at Kirby and also farmed in the neigh horltovd. Her childhood was spent around there and then with her parents parents moved to London Township at the age of eighteen. She was married at. Birr. London Township, in December, December, 1873, to Mr. Moses Robbins of Leslcard, where they lived until nineteen years ago when they retired from the farm and moved to Orono. Her husband predeceased her on August : 25th, 1925, then she moved to!:her old homestead at Leskard and lived with her son Lomé until her dejmise. The late Airs. Robbins was in fairly good health up until two mon ths ago, but gradually weakened and later passed peacefully away. She was a great worker in the Methodist tfChureb (now United), and also took a. Wery keen interest in the Sunday School. She was of a family of ten children of which only one survives, a brother, Mr. Clarence Gilbank of St Anna, California, (She leaves : to mourn her loss three sons, Frank of Oshawa, Lome and Art of Leskard. Rev. J. H. Osterhout, her pastor, had charge of the services at the house and graveside. Interment was made in the Orono Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. George Ball, Ernest Syer, John Gay, William Cornish, Ernie Nicholson, and William Cole. Elliott In Durham County HON. M. F. HEPBURN Leader of the Liberal Party, Who was elected in the riding qf iS>t. Thomas by a majority of 5,000. MRS. JOHN HANNA The death of Mrs. John Hanna, Geo, Terry, Oshawa, occurred at the family residence. Carrying Place, last Friday. The late Mrs. Hanna had lived practically her whole life at Carrying Place and the funeral at St. John's Anglican Church on Sunday afternoon was thé largest, seen there for many years. She was in her 72nd- year. The service was conducted by Rev. Arthur Strothers, rector of the church and the service at the graveside, graveside, was conducted by the deceased's son-in-law, Rev. B. E, Wright. The large number of floral tokens testified in a measure to the high esteem in which Mrs. Hanna was held in the community. Besides the bereaved 1 husband, John Hanna, she is survived by five daughters daughters and four sons : Mrs. B. E. Wright, North Bangor, N.Y. ; Mrs. M. McMahon, and Mrs. Geo. .'Terry, Oshawa ; Mrs. Geo. Church, Toronto and Mrs. S. Pearson, Orono; Hugh and, Grover Lianna at home, Lloyd, of Frankford, and Stephen of Trenton. Trenton. The pallbearers were her sons-in- law (with the exception of Rev. Mr. Wright) a nephew and a cousin. Interment Interment took place at McPhail's cemetery. Large crowds gathered, in Orono in the evening to hear the results of their local candidates and also to get the results of the province as a whole. The new: radio shop, which is about to open in town, had a Maroni radio in the doorway of the Store which gave all the results on the election. After it was learned that Cecil O. Mercer would be elected, places of businesses closed for the evening and hied themselves off to Port Hope to be. in on the célébration, thp place that gave Mercer a majority of 600. Three bands were present for the oc- sion, being, Orono, Port, Hope and (Bowman ville Ban dis. After this was over the gathering broke up and a large number then proceeded to Elizabeth Elizabeth ville, the home of the newly elected member, when another celebration celebration was given to the victor, which ended 1 a very enjoyable evening.
