Kendal news , We did have a "white Christmas" and the skiers have been enjoying the slopes since then, together with some balmy temperatures in the thirties. The last Sunday of the year in Kendal church was communion communion Sunday. Rev. G. Montgomery chose as his text - "Joy cometh in the morning' Psalm 30 v 5. He read Dr. Johnson's ten rules for a good life. Some of which we might plan to copy in the new year. Here are some of his resolutions: I will, rise early, read the scripture, go the church twice on Sunday read a religious book and instruct my family in religion. Mr. and Mrs. Garland Cathcart were invited to come to Kendal United Church on Sunday afternoon to meet their friends and neighbours on the occasion of their 25th Wedding Anniversary. Some of the families represented in that class were Jackson, Martinell, Mercer, Quantrill, Bell, Burley and Low. They were the choir girls led by Mr. Jas Swarbrick. A minority government manoevered merely to stay in power, and did nothing to grapple with Canada's ever-growing problem problem of inflation. The election campaign produced produced the strange spectacle of the Trudeau government being being returned to power, not on the basis of any program of thanked everyone for such a pleasant afternoon. Greenhouse flower flower growers have already potted their tulip, daffodil, and hyacinth bulbs and placed them in cold storage, so they will soon be available at florists and garden centers. However, anyone can force bulbs at home, according to horticulturist D.M. Sangster of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Plant bulbs in well-drained pots or pans, partially filled with loam, to which coarse sand and peat or leafmold have been added. For the best display, plant only one variety of bulbs in each pot and place them close together but not touching. To ensure good root growth avoid packing the soil under the bulbs. Provide good drainage for hyacinths and prevent rotting by placing a little sand right under the bulbs. Cover most bulbs with soil leaving enough room in the pot for watering. Hyacinths Hyacinths and daffodils, however, do best when the top third of the bulb is exposed. After planting and watering [ place most bulbs in a place where the temperature is between 35 and 40 degrees for 10 to 12 weeks. However, hyacinths do best at 50 degrees and some bulbs such as paperwhites and Soleil d'Or narcissi, do not need a cold storage period. If the bulbs are stored in an attic, basement, or root cellar, protect them from mice. Vater them regularly. When the pots are filled with roots and the top growth is about two inches high bring the bulbs into subdued light at 50 degrees for two to three weeks. Then move them into full light at 60 degrees to bloom. The flower buds will be ruined if the bulbs are forced too quickly or exposed to excessive heat. Keep the soil moist at all times. their own, but on the inadequacies inadequacies of the Conservative opposition's proposals. The new majority Liberal government has/ continued with its policy vacuum. It has no realistic program to combat combat inflation, but on the contrary seems determined to add to it by increasing government expenditures. It is literally trying to spend its way out of inflation. For instance, last year, Deputy Ministers salaries were increased to $60,000 annually. The _ West Coast Grain Handler's Strike was settled by awarding them a wage increase of sixty-two percent. The federal government now is proposing to increase Judge's salaries by seventy- five percent. The spending estimates for almost every federal government government department for 1975 is up by at least 25 to 35 percent. And now, of course, the Liberals have proposed the ill-timed and misconceived salary raise for M.P.s of fifty percent, and a sixty-five percent increase for Cabinet Ministers. In spite of this obvious trend of increasing spending, which Don't Leave It to Chance Be sure your home is truly protected by a good policy. Call us now. Millson Insurance Agency Office: Corner of vmirch and Cobbledick Street 983-5032 should have been apparent to all, the Press and the Public have been surprised and quite rightly, angered at this latest move. If I was a cynic, I could say that our country is getting precisely the type of government government it voted into office last July. It is a government that has no clear idea whatever, of the way it can and should be tackling our number one problem of inflation. The only good sign for 1975 nationally, is that obviously the situation, cannot get worse. As Northumberland- Durham's M.P. I shall continue continue to try to expose the Trudeau government's shallow shallow thinking in regard to inflation, and the resulting miseries it is causing to many of our agricultural producers and our consumers. And I shall try to continue to propose sensible viable, constructive constructive alternatives. To do this, as in the past, I will look forward to having the opinions, comments, and criticisms of everyone in the riding. And I hope that 1975, will be * ■* otU. a year of contentment, prosperity, prosperity, and fulfillment for everyone of you.
