Tries to Reopen TATOA Just one day after regional council decided in effect to forget its application for membership into Toronto Area Area Transit Operating Authority Authority (TATOA), Coun. John Goodwin Goodwin (Whitby) made a move to reopen the controversial issue. Coun. Goodwin, at a meeting of regional works department Thursday, asked and got committee approval for Works Works Commissioner R. F. Richardson to seek a meeting -between the committee and with Premier William Davis to re-negotiate the subject. Council at its regular meeting Wednesday decided to "receive "receive and file" a letter from the premier which indicated the region could join TATOA provided it did so on the same terms as the existing member municipalities. Coun. Goodwin, opposed council's council's decision - passed on a 15 -11 margin with four members absent - and said at that time, he felt it would be a mistake and would break off the lines of communication. He repeated the warning in his request for the meeting Thursday. Coun. Alan DeWar (Oshawa), public works committee chairman, chairman, said he "didn't see anything wrong with re-op- ening the matter if we are prepared to take the criticism. at regional council". "There are members of council," he said, "who consider consider the ma tter to be closed- never to come up again." Oshawa Council Saves '75 Fair The Town of Newcastle Planning Advisory Committee Committee has completed two by-law proposals for council consideration consideration at their next meeting early in March.- Last week the committee reached final agreement on a salvage yard proposal which had been submitted to the former Clarke Council in 1973 m ® @ @ a ® a ® a a a • a 1 JACK l RI CARP: REALTOR ; 99 King St, E, ® The Oshawa Fair got a five month reprieve from Oshawa council last week which will give the fair use of Alexandra park this year for the final time. Council reversed a recommendation recommendation from community services committee which would have denied an application application from the fair board for the extension and forces the committee to bring another recommendation to council in two weeks to allow, the fair to use the park in 1975. This is the second year in a row the South Ontario Agricultural Agricultural Society will be using Alexandra park for the last time. Early l^st year, council gave the society notice that its 67 year lease at the park would be terminated Dec. 31, 1974. Bill Reid, chairman of the fair board's relocation commute, commute, told council members the board didn't have enough time to find a suitable site. "It's not that we can't find another location," he said. "But coming up with the money they want is the problem." At its meeting last Oct. 7 council endorsed in principle the relocation of the fair to a site in the south end in conjunction with a racetrack hotel arena complex, but the BOWMANVILLE When Buying or Selling ■ Call , WltF HAWKE .* your Orono Area Representative 983-5274 * scheme hinged on approval of a racing season. Mr. Reid said last night he received word from the federal federal and provincial governments governments that the society's application for racing days was turned down late last week because the proposed track locations is within a 50 mile radius of Toronto's Greenwood Raceway.
