6-ORONO WEEKLY TIMES, MARCH 5th. 1975 ORONO TOWN HALL COME UNDER RECREATION Council on Monday evening gave the go ahead for the operation of the Orono Town Hall to come under the Newcastle Recreational Department and Mr. Bud Fanning Mayor Rickard questioned the move stating that Mr' Fanning was being extended beyond all reason. Coun. Allen stated that Mr. Fanning had the contacts in Orono and had not spoke out against taking over the hall. Coun. Lyall stated it might be a good thing to move the Rectreational Department out of Bowmanville and place them in the Orono offices. PEEWEE FLYERS TIE WITH MILLBROOK FLYERS The Orono PeeWee Flyers and the Millbrook Flyers played to a 2i»ll tie. Richard Robinson and Duane Major notched the Orono goals with a well-earned assist going to David Sutch. ORONO HORNETS SHOW STRENGTH The Orono PeeWee Hornets went away out in front of the Millbrook Kings by a score of 8-2. The Hornets win was a team effort seven players sharing in the scoring. Joey Seneco scored two goals with the others by Norm Battams, Preston Long, Paul Reed, Steve Stec, Earl Atkins and Alan Webster. ORONO EAGLES BANTAMS DOWN ORONO FALCONS The Orono Falcons had to take second place with their opposition, the Eagles in a game with the Eagles registering the win 4-1. Jeff Nicholls scored the lone Falcon goal while Kevin Russell, Doug Kramer, Ron Talsma and Allen McCarthy shared in the Eagles scoring. DUTCH OVEN BANTAMS OVER BOWMANVILLE The Orono Dutch Oven Bantams in an exhibition game took a 2-1 win over a visiting team from Bowmanville. The two Orono goals came off the stick of Bill Hudgins. replied for Regional while Elmhurst were playing two men short. This tied the score 1-1 and sent the game into overtime. OVERTIME Robin Rickard of Elmhurst certainly deserves a star for his effort during the game, as well as scoring the winning goal when he tucker the puck behind goalie Don Todd at the 19 minute 30 second mark of overtime and ending the game 2-1. COMMENTS Next weeks action will see Regional Reclaimers playing host to Elmhurst Hotel in their fourth game of the series. In the three games played to date in this series all have gone into overtime with Elmhurst winning 2 and Regional 1. An exhibition game between the Newcastle Town league combines and General Motors Paint Shop Team. ORONO TYKE WIN CONSOLATION TROPHY The Orono Tykes travelled to Oakwood on March 1st and returned with the consolation trophy. The Orono boys took the final game of this series by a score of 5-1 over BeaVérton. Andy Davey scored two of the Orono goals with the others by Stephen Murree, Roger French and Greg Vey. ONE GOAL ONLY TO ORONO NOVICE The Orono Novice in an exhibition game with a team from Bowmanville were defeated 4-1. The single goal for Orono was scored by Randy Tennant. ORONO MIDGETS ONE UP AND ONE DOWN The Orono Midgets took a 7-3 win from Grafton in a recent game. Milan Popadich showed the way for Orono with a hat trick followed by Gary Fallis with a two-goal effort. Single counters were by Rick Williams and Barry West. In another Midget game the Orono crew had to settle for the short end of a 4-2 encounter with Colborne. The two Orono goals were shared by Gerry Fallis and Greg Hickey. NEWCASTLE TOWN LEAGUE HOCKEY BY HAD NEWCASTLE ATOMS DOWN ORONO The Newcastle Atoms took a narrow 2-1 victory over Orono with the lone Orono goal coming off the stick of Steve Wood with assist to Rodney Amrstrong. KINSMEN PEEWEES OUT IN FRONT The Orono Kinsmen PeeWees went out infront in a game with the Millbrook Wings by a score of 5-2. Ross Stutt notched two goals for Orono with Robbie Talsma, Wayne MacLean and Kevin Philip sharing in the other three goals. VILLAGE OF NE W CASTLE ELMHURST 2 REGIONAL 1 Elmhurst Hotel edged Regional Reclaimers 2-1 in overtime in the third game of the finals last night at the Ice Palace. In the first two periods of play both teams were skating end to end, and goalies George Van Dam and Don Todd kept robbing the forwards and stopping blistering drives from defencemen as each team had equal scoring opportunities. At the 3:00 minute mark of the third period Ron Slack hit the mark for Elmhurst, and at the 15.00 minute mark T. Geràld RAobinson posted two wins with a third coming from a drive by Junior West Robinson's first win came in the seventh driving Perry to a 2.22.2 win edging out Blythe Venture and Signatory. In five starts this season Perry now has a first, a second and a third place finish. Robinson returned in the 8th race to post another win this time driving Lucky Streak to its second win of the season in six starts. Lucky Streak has also a 2nd and 3 rd place finish to its credit. Hempstead Stan and Elm Grove Chief were second and bird. Junior West came up for his win in the ninth driving Prima Blossom followed by Wave Bye Bye and Rogerland, the later driven by Derek Newman. Prima Blossom now has a 1st and two 2nd place finishes in five starts this year. Junior West also saw action in thé first placing fifth with Fair Weather with Glenn Tennant in sixth place with his horse Justly Afro. Zorro Gratton driven by West in the second race was fifth with the win going to Jimmy Bing. He place second in the fourth race with Armbro Pine with this ever being won by Bye's Garry. Third place went to Dyke Worthy. In the fifth race Gerald Robinson came in fourth with Joe Stadt while Jack Williams back with Harwil Shirley placed sixth. The race was won by Scottie BAttles. Executive Director David Home said the actual patient costs may range from $40 to well over $200 per day, but explained the cost was average average for all services available! The "hotel" or bed-only part of a stay in hospital amounts to $17 a day including including room service, which Mr. Hume said was "favourable compared with the average hotel." But he pointed out hospitalization hospitalization costs in Canada are still well below those in the United States where the average daily rate is $150.
