-ORONO WEEKLY TIMES, MARCH CLARKE JUDO CLUB MAKING NAME FOR ITSELF The Clarke Judo Club continues to make a name for itself in local competitions throughout the area and this was again true on March 2nd in a competition at the Maple Leaf monthly tournament. Tanya Fonk placed first in her class while Danny Webster took a respectable second place in his category. The club operates on a weekly basis every Saturday morning in the Orono Town Hall. NEWCASTLE TOWN LEAtiUE BY "HAD" REGIONAL 4-ELMHURST 1 Regional Reclaimers looked sharp in whipping Elmhurst Hotel 4-1 Sunday night at the Newcastle Ice Palace. This ties their series at two games apiece. Joe Reader sparked the Reclaimers attack with a goal at the 10.30 mark of the first period. Reclaimers then went on to score two second period goals, one each by M. McGregor and R. Landry and on the third period goal by B. Stiles. Don Todd who did an outstanding job in the nest for Regional had only one puck put by him when E. Cobbledick of the Elmhurst was credited for a goal late in the third period. PENALTIES HURT Elmhurst the recipient of nine of the twelve penalties handed out had two of the four goals scored against them while playing short handed. COMMENTS. Next weeks action will see Elmhurst Hotel playing host to Regional Reclaimers in their final game of the series, with the winners taking home the cup for the 1974-75 season. novice hockey Over the week-end two Orono Novice teams played an exhibition game. Camsport took a slight edge in the goal scoring with a one goal margin in a 5-4 count. Randy Tennant netted three of the Camsport goals with Greg Vuy and John Urbanic completing the scoring. The goals for the other Orono team went to Greg Philp with three and a single counter to Glenn Jenkins. NEWCASTLE ATOMS WIN OVER ORONO ATHLETICS The Newcastle Atoms in a league series has eliminated the Orono Atom Athletics. The final game of the series went to Newcastle 3-2. The two Orono goals were scored by Steven Wood and Wayne Zoschkle. ORONO-BEWDLEY SERIES TIED The playdowh series between the Orono Flyer Atoms BEWDLEY ATOMS OUT IN FRONT OF ORONO FLYERS The Bewdley Atoms hold a strong lead over the Orono Atom Flyers with a win and tie. The decision will come on Wednesday evening in the Orono arena at 8.00 p.m. In the most recent game Bewdley took the win 4-2 with the two Orono goals coming off the sticks of Ren Farrow and Rirk Carr. PEEWEE HORNETS WIN SERIES The Orono PeeWee Hornets have won their series over the Millbrook entry with a final 6-1 victory. Ren Prescott lead the way in the game with two goals while the other four were shared by Paul Reed, Joey Seneeo, Ervan Bryn Jones and NormBattams. PEEWEE FLYERS AND MILLBROOK DEADLOCKED The Orono PeeWee Flyers playing another Millbrook team find themselves in a tied series with both teams have two ties. The third game of the series will be played in Millbrook on Thursday evening at 8.00 p.m. In the most recent game Orono and Millbrook both pumped a single counter for a tie game. Teddy Deriot scored the single Orono goal. BANTAM EAGLES DOWN DUTCH OVEN CREW The Orono Eagle Bantams took a strong win from the Dutch Oven boys at the local rink by a score of 4-1. Doug Hancock netted two goals for the Eagles with Mark Charland and Marcel Charland netting the other two. The lone tally for the Dutch Oven came off the stick of Ron Opoka. ORONO MIDGETS BLANK GRAFTON The Orono Midgets took a 2-0 win over Grafton with Ron Clapdorp earning the shut-out in the Orono nets. The goals for Orono were by Allan Farrow and Bob Davis. Durham looking for right balance AT THE GREENWOOD On Monday night in Toronto Derke Newman posted a second place finish driving his own horse, Wil Lor Ben. Junior West in two drives finished third with Canal View Way and fourth with Sargent's Amber, a horse owned by Chas. Peake of Orono. REGISTERS WINS ATKAWARTHA Gerald Robinson registerd a win at the Kawartha or Sunday with a drive with Perry. Perry, owned by Bruce Adams of Bowmanville has had two wins, a second and third place finish in its six starts this year. Derek Newman was a close second in the race behind Robinson driving Rogerland. The race went in 2.11.1. Third was Blythe Venture. Junior West took a win in the eighth race driving Geisha Richelieu in a time of 2.14. Second was Jeannie Marie, third Maxi Valley. Derek Newman finished fifth in the race with Propser Dares. Keith West placed fourth on two occasions. In the first race driving Ritzy Pride with the win going to Bye's Garry, 2nd Trixie Cole and 3rd Miss Taraway. In the fourth race West again placed fourth driving Lark's Melody. The win went to Real McCoy with Derek Newman placing fifth driving Homestead Express. Junior West was third in the ninth driving Prima Blossom. The win was taken by Mooreland's Don and with Mooreland's Jane second. Time 2.11. The Newcastle Ratepayers Association at a meeting last week decided that they would incorporate the Association when membership in the group reached five hundred members. It now has a membership of a little over one hundred. The thirty member board was informed by a lawyer that incorporation would protect protect the officers of the association against personal liability for debts or law suits against the association. Membership in the association association costs a modest $1.00 and are open to any resident of the new Town of Newcastle. This spring the Lindsay District will have prepared 44 pairs of Woodduck nesting boxes for a total of 88 individual vacant rooms a- waiting the arrival of the Wood Ducks on their return trip from the south which could be anywhere from the State of Virginia to the bottomland swamps of Mexico. The Wood Ducks will return shortly after break-up in search of potential nesting areas where they will construct construct a nest of swamp grasses, cedar bark, small twigs and a mattress of their own down. Preferred nesting areas are bottomland swamps or near woodland ponds and streams. Nests which are located in hollows and crevices in trees, either over or near water, have been recorded as high as 40 feet. The hen will, lay anywhere from eight to fourteen, light brown eggs, of which an average of approximately four juvenile wood ducks will make the trip south the following fall.
