ORONO A SOFTBALL TOWN According to Recreational Director Bud Fanning following a meeting last week concerning recreational softball it would appear that the Village of Orono could be in for a lot of this sport this year. Mr. Fanning states there could be four or five teams in Orono and the subdivision interested in the game this year. The teams would play in a league with other entries from Enniskillen, Courtice, Newcastle, Bowmanville and other centres in the Town. The league is to be recreational for those 18 years of age and up. Many in the Village will remember some years back when softball flourished in Oron and many a heated game was played in the Orono Park. At that time rivalry was quite keen between an entry from the Orono Forestry, one or two teams from Orono and an entry from Kirby. Perhaps the 'good old days' are coming back. Anyone in the Orono area interested in the game may call Wayne Martin or leave their name at the Recreation Department office in the Orono Town Hall. FISHERMEN, FISHERMEN .. If the cold weather prevails to continue as it has in the past few weeks local fishermen who look forward to the opening season for trout nay find it a little chilly at the break of dawn. The trout season in the area opens on April 26 at midnight and no doubt many are already dreaming of those large trout that will be making their spring trip up the Wilmot and Ganaraska. The fish ladder on the Ganaraska at Port Hope is now in operation and some warmer weather will certainly spur the annual trip up the river for the Rainbows. Last year trout were weighed in up to thirteen pounds at the ladder. OUT OF THE TEN -.FOUR NOW NAMED Out of the ten corners at Mosport four now carry names. The best known, of course is Moss Corner but there is also the White's Corner in memory of Ron and Eve White well-known Toronto Motorsport journalists who were killed in an air crash in 1971 and the Mario Andretti Straight named after the American Indianapolis winner. In recognition of the motor sport fans from the Province of Quebec, Mosport has now named one of the corners Virage Québécois (Quebec Corner). It is estimated that a least 8 percent of a crowd at any of the big races does come from the Belle province. orono drivers chalk up two wins Derek Newman chalked up the firs^gvin of the night for Orono drivers at the JCawartha on Saturday night.
