ORONO WEEKLY TIMES, MAY 21st. 1975 -9 Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lomas from Kent, England meeting their great grandson Adam Hadley for the first time. During their stay in Canada they will be visiting relatives in Orono, Bowmanville and Port Credit. This Saturday a party will be held at the home McKelvey. After Janice arrived arrived a game was played followed by Janice opening all her lovely . gifts. Janice, thanked all and invited them to her home in Toronto, after which she cut the cake. The hostesses Dorren and Sharon Lowery Marion McKelvey, and Joan Ard and helpers served a lovely lunch. On Saturday evening there was another Bridal shower at the Kirby Church for Miss Marilyn Hamm over forty attended the shower. After Marilyn had unwrapped all the lovely gifts, she thanked all the hostesses for the lovely shower. Hostesses were Lila Chapman, Ruby Bryson, Ruth Grady and Janet Duval. Miss Lorna Lowery attended attended the orienteering meet at Ottawa on the weekend and placed second. Lorna was hoping to go to Sweden this summer orienteering as she was Ontario's Junior Ladies Champion but a mixup in names hasn't been cleared up as yet. A very delightful service was held at Kirby United Church on Sunday. When the Sunday School took charge of the service singing three numbers. A gift was presented presented to Steven Graham for knowing the Bible so well for his age, and to Eric Lambier for .being pianoist for the Sunday School. The choir sang come to the church in the Wildwood. Mr. Marvin COlvin with a group of boys from Orono presented the Insigna of the United Church and gave the derivation of the symbols from the three Uniting Chur- chs. Congregational Presybt- erian and Methodist in 1925. Many stayed for a lovely lunch served in the Sunday School room after the service. With a birthday cake comemorating comemorating the union. Kirby News The U.S.W. held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 13th in the Sunday School room with eleven present. Dora opened the meeting with a thought for the day. Hymn 15 was sung with Ruby at the piano followed by the Lords Prayer in unison. Dora read a short story In the Garden and prayer. Roll call was taken and collection was received and dedicated. We were invited to join with the choir at Newcastle on June 1st. The Kirby U.C.W. are holding a bake sale at Alva Reid's on Saturday May 24th opening at 11 am. Lila read To Each is Given a Book of Rules Hymn 374 was sung. Nita read the Scripture, Luke 10-1-11. Lila read About a Missionary In Angola. They were close friends of hers followed by prayer. Hymn 376 was sung and we closed with the Mispah Benediction. Grace Reid served tea and muffins. This coming . Sunday our guest speaker for the Kirby United Church Spring Anniversary Anniversary will be Rev. Mr. Maggs of Oshawa. Thursday evening over fifty friends and realtives of the surrounding community attended attended a bridal shower for Miss Janice Rutherford in the Kirby Sunday School room. The Sunday School was decorated decorated up with streamers and bells and umbrella. Bronte Creek Provincial Park, at the Queen Elizabeth Way and Highway 25, midway between between Toronto and Hamilton, will be open without charge this year for day-use and picnicking. Among its special features are a children's farm and nature hikes. Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park, near Dorion on Highway 27 about 35 miles east of Thunder Bay, provides walking trails along the canyon's edge to give visitors a spectacular view of the "Grand Canyon of Ontario," No admission charge. Additional campsites are under construction construction at several existing provincial parks- Algonquin, Bon Echo, Killbear. Fairbank, Remi Lake and Ivanhoe.
