Those motoring motoring home from Windsor and London on Friday told of very difficult driving and of seeing hydro poles burning during the journey. The corn, potatoes potatoes and tobacco can be seen in rows down the fields and the cattle are standing in the tall grass. Sunday was a very perfect June day for the many events planned. The fife and drum band led the Orange parade of men and women from Kendal, Main Street to the church on Sunday morning. The Kendal Brownie troop under the leadership of Mrs. D. Macdonald Macdonald also formed part of the parade. Rev. G. Montgomery chose as the basis of his sermon Ephesians chapter 6 verses 5 to 18. Verse 11 says, 'Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand." They sang, "Stand up, stand up for Jesus." They were told to buckle on the belt of truth, and for our sword the Holy Bible. Are we using the availalbe opportunities to become become vibrant Christians? We need re-vitialization not tran- quilization. He closed his message with the hymn "Will our anchor hold..," after which a social hour was enjoyed in the church school. In the afternoon the Sunday school picnic was held on the grounds of the Kendal Public School. The children enjoyed the races, the tug of war and all the many events while everyone enjoyed the abundance abundance of goodies on the well laden tables. In the evening some of the Kendal Folk went to Newcastle Newcastle to take part in the 50 year celebration of the United Church and to hear the Kingston theatre group put on "The Book, The Bush and the Dove." Miss C. Stewart attended the opening of the new Junior high school "The Pines" last Wednesday evening. We are glad to report that Mr. Webster of Kendal is much improved and home again from hospital after suffering a heart attack. Kendal friends are sorry to hear that Mr. Chas. Cooper is in hospital. He is Mrs. J. Stapleton's father. We hope he will soon be well again. Next Sunday, June 8th Newtonville, Kendal and Shiloh Shiloh will all come together at eleven a.m. in Newtonville church conducted by Rev. T. Smith. This is to celebrate the union that took place June 10th, 1925. There will be no service at Kendal. No action taken Hydro Manager, Chas. Pearce, reported at the recent meeting of Hydro regarding a meeting with the Rgional Public Works Department and the Town of Newcastle council along with public utilities managers. The meeting meeting concerned an overall regional rate for water and sewers. Manager Pearce stated that the regional rate would include include not only charges for the use of water but would also include the frontage charge as well as the service charge and hydrant rental charges. Rolph (Dominion) Hardware paid through the tax b ; " but under the new prl^ ,ed system they would be on the water bill. Mr. Pearce felt that there were some inequities under the new proposed system and that the local commission should lodge their objections. Commission Doug Simpson stated that within a few years Orono water users will have completely paid for their system. However if the new proposed plan of charges came into effect such would never exist as it would be based on the entire region. Commissioner H. Partner said that the Orono Commission Commission had now no responsibility for water and it was now none of their business. Commissioner Forrester pointed out that the proposed new plan of charging for water including both capital costs and use in the annual rate was the same system as the local hydro used to finance their operation. He also said the education system operates operates the same way where everybody is part of the whole system. He said he saw nothing wrong with the idea that a pail of water cost the same in Oshawa as it did in Orono. "We however dô not have enough information to make a decision," he said. It wa pointed out at the meeting that under the new proposed scheme of rates Orono costs for water would reduce while those in Os* a would increase bringing to the same level. - Mr. Simpson pointe ut that residents in the w sub-division had already paid for their water mains as had some 28 within the Village of Orono. He did not feel it fair that these people should now have to start paying again. The Commission took no action in the matter.
