Last Wednesday Robinson drove both Noble Lad and Hazel Creed to wins in times of 2.06.4 and 2.06. On Saturday evening at the Kawartha his win came in the eighth race driving Keomo with a winning time of 2.07.2. Patterson and Seventh in the second race driving Songspeed. He was fourth in the fifth with Coastal Kelly and fifth in the seventh race driving Peaches, owned by Morley and Gord Robinson of Newtonville. Gerald Robinson driving in the fourth race finished sixth with Boge while Junior West was fifth driving Banker Ben owned by Don Lycett and Carman Hie. In the eighth race Derek Newman finished sixth with Rogerland. Keith West came up with a win on Saturday night in the ) sixth race when in 2.13.3 he won with Hilltop Class. Princess • Karen owned by Wm. Reid of Orono was second in the opening race and Derek Newman driving P.J. placed third in the same race. Junior West was écond in the last race of the night with Lucky Streak, a horse owned by Russ Powell, Newcastle. The main event in 2.05.3. msimu KENDAL EAGLES WIN OVER BOWMANVILLE The Kendal Eagles in a close high scoring game came out on top of Bowmanville in Kendal on Sunday. The Kendal crew were hitting well and with some good pitching were able to edge Bowmanville 9-8. Jerry Thompson was awarded the win on the Kendal mound with relief from Doug Taylor and Michael Carman. In the hitting department Bruce Aldred went 2 for 3 with a double and twp walks. Steve West was 2 for 4 with a home run. Doug Taylor and Dan Norton were 2 for 5. Tim Walton and Bill robinson shared the catching duties for the Eagles. The Kendal boys came up with a sound game with no errors and in the meantime pounded out 13 hits. Stanton and St. John starred for Bowmanville in the hitting department. There was a large crowd in attendance for the game with the next home game to be played Saturday, Jul 12th at 2,00 p.m. ORONO GIRLS PICKING UP Two Orono Junior girls softball teams have been able to register wins over the past week. The Orono C team took a 12 to 7 win over Hampton B with Heather Sawyer hitting out two home runs and scoring four of the twelve runs. The game was held on July 2nd. On July 4th the Orono A team took a 14-13 wins over the Hampton Bs while the Orono B teams won over the Orono C team 19-13. According to Jim Hutton the local girls are interested in the schedule of play with on most occasions almost one hudred percent of the girls turning up. He also said the schedule is such that it is not difficult to arrange travel or to hold the games. It is being a real sporting activity in the community. At the are 955 activities start on present time there registered in the swimming programme, which includes, Bowmanville, Orono and Newcastle Village Pools. The Tyrone Community Hall Board and the Recreation Recreation Department Tennis Club has a registration of 230 people. The Tennis programme programme is conducted seven days a Week. 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m, to 10:00 p.m. The Recreation Mens Fun Softball League has ten teams and a registration of 105 players. There are 90 boys and girls registered in the Tennis Clinic at the Lions Centre in Bowmanville and 40 at the Orono Park Tennis Club. Our gym classes just finished finished for the season and there were 154 participants involved involved in gym work at Bowmanville Bowmanville and Kirby. The Town T. Ball League had 165 players, while 115 took part in the Atom Baseball League and 35 in the Pee Wee League. There are 22 players in the Junior Girls Softball League and 120 in the Senior Girls League. Boys Softball mainly in the Ward 1 area attracted 83 players in both leagues Junior and Senior. There are more soccer players this season with a grand total of 106 Juniors boys and 74 Senior boys.
