6-ORONO WEEKLY TIMES, JULY 16, 1975 CAN LOOK FOR MORE RAINBOW TROUT The local fishermen may have his creel increased within a year or two as a result of action by the Ministry of Natural Resources to stock numerous streams in the Durham Region running into Lake Ontario with Rainbow trout. Some 100,000 rainbow trout fry will be released by the end of the summer in streams in Durham and Northumberland that flow into the lake. Happy fishing in the future. DUCK OUT TO DARLINGTON The annual Waterfowl Day held at the Darlington Provincial Park in the past has some new inovations this year. It is to be called "Duck out to Darlington" and will be held, in the park on Sunday, September 7th. The new emphasis is on the demonstration of waterfowl shooting sports for the benefit of the audience as well as the competitors. The following events will be held: Shooting Events for everyone, Canadian Duck Calling Championships, Retriever Show and Demonstrations, Waterfowl Identification Tests, and Waterfowl Management Demonstrations. Also included will be : Decoy Head Carving Contests Decoy Contest Wildlife Art Display Food from the Wild and Bullfrog Jumping Contests. TOTAL PROJECT COST The total project cost for a community centre and arena at Bewdley rests at $390,187.73. The group in charge of the project are now looking for a sum of $60,000 through donations to purchase the ice plant for the new arena. KENDAL EAGLES WIN ONE OF THREE The Kendal Eagles ..supplied their home-town fans with some exciting ball when on Saturday they took the Bowmanville Electrons to 12 innings before edging out a win The win on Saturday gave the Eagles a one win, two loss record for the week. The Saturday game played in Kendal was an exciting feature for local fans when down one run in the final inning James Wright who had a 2-4 record in the game scored the tieing run to place the game into extra innings. Wright also scored the winning run in the twelfth when he was driven home by Doug Rickard to bring a big cheer from the locals. Rickard also drove Wright in for the tieing run. Fraser Wallace also came in for a star of the game with a 1-4 record along with a RBI and some fine fielding plays out in the field. Doug Rickard started the game on the mound for-Kendal with Mike Carman coming in in the sixth in relief. In the Twelve innings they gave up only six hits with the final score standing at 6-5 in favour of the Eagles. BOWMANVILLE TAKE THEIR REVENGE Sunday the Bowmanville electrons took a 5-3 victory over the Eagles even though the Eagles out hit them 10-6. Five errors by Kendal was their downfall in this feature. Bill McCollough was credited with the lose even though he came up with some fine pitching off the Kendal mound. In the hitting department Bill Robinson closed in with 3-4 Doug Rickard continued to swing a big bat with a 2-4 record. LITTLE BRITAIN BLANKETS KENDAL Last Thursday evening in Little Britain the home team blanketed Kendal 6-0. Both teams registered five hits in the game with Steven West and B. Aldread pounding out 2 for 4 and Doug Taylor coming in for the fifth hit. DOUBLE HEADER TO BE PLAYED IN KENDAL On Sunday, July 20th a double-header ball game will be played in the Kendal Park with both the Kendal Royals and the Kendal Eagles seeing action. The Kendal Junior Royals will start the day off with a game at 1:00 p.m. with Cobourg providing the opposition. At 4:00 p.m. the Eagles will take the field with Port Hope and the rivalry between these two teams should complete a fine day of ball in Kendal on the 20th. HARNESS ORONO DRIVERS NEAR THE TOP Two local harness horse drivers are near the top in the average as posted at the Kawartha raceway on June 28th. Doug Brown is out in front while Junior West holds second position with a .463 average in 36 drives and Derek Newman in third position with a .444 average in 15 starts. Gerald Robinson holds out with a .349 average in his fourteen drives at the Kawartha raceway. West must have enhanced his position last week with three first place finishes. Gerald Robinson came forth with two wins in the week at the northern raceway. Junior West registered his first win last Tuesday in. the fourth race driving Doug Lycett's horse, Banker Ben in 2.09. On Thursday evening West made his mark in the eighth race with Arkansas Traveller with a time of 2.06.4. Also on Thursday he was second in the tenth with Lucky Streak as well as oeing second in the sixth driving Nickawampus Star. He was also fifth driving Elby's Daisy and fourth driving Papakomeka. On Saturday Junior took his win in the fifth race driving Fair Adde while taking a second place finish in the third with Fifehill Blaze, a fourth place finish in the fourth with Peachés and a fifth place finish with Songspeed in the opening race. Gerald Robinson packed his two wins into Saturday evening when he drove Boge across the finish line ahead of the pack in the second race and returned in the seventh to place Karen's Comet first at the finish line edging out Junior West who placed second with Coastal Kelly. Robinson won his last race with a time of 2.09.1. He placed third on Tuesday night with Karen's Comet in a race won by Steady Hostess in 2.06. Derek Newman posted his cloSeest win on Tuesday evening with a third place finish in the sixth race driving Misty Dream.
