It was understood that the Province would pay 100 percent percent of the cost of renovations and with this understanding the Region's Social Services Committee gave their approval approval to a tender from Bowmanville Construction in the amount of $139,505 to undertake the renovations of the Bowmanville building for the day, care centre. The tenders were sent to the province for their approval. The province stated that the sum must be trimmed to $94,900. The contract was reduced by the committee to the requested sum necessitating necessitating some deletions from the works. The Regional council looked at the reduction last week and eeeeeeeee••••• 1 MIDTOWN • CONFECTIONERY AND 2 GIFTS Orono, Ontario PHONE 983-5242 have asked the committee to endeavour to negotiate a better deal with the province. Council, however, did give the committee approval to proceed proceed when they felt all had been done possible. Councillor Newman of Whitby Whitby said he was concerned because in fact the province was not covering the cost of the renovations and additions 100 percent but rather by some 65 percent. His concern was echoed by Count:. Garnet Rickard (Newcastle) (Newcastle) who questioned why the items were withdrawn from the project when they had been initially approved by the province in the architect's plan.
