6--Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, August 13th, 1975 BASEBALL KENDAL EAGLES OUT IN FRONT OF PLAYDOWN The Kendal Eagles after three games in the seven game playdown series with Bowmanville has a 2-1 lead. The fourth game was played in Bowmanville on Tuesday night with the fifth game to go in Kendal on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The sixth and seventh games are scheduled in Bowmanville on Sunday night and in Kendal on Monday night, if necessary. The Bowmanville Intermediate team took the first game of the series last Thursday on the Eagles home grounds, 5 - 3. Kendal was out in front 3 - 2 in the bottom of the seventh. Bowmanville however came off the bench in the eighth to drive in three runs to win the game while Kendal left three on base in their bat in this frame. The Eagles had ten hits in the game to BoWmanville's eight. On Saturday in Bowmanville the Kendal crew turned the tables with a 3 - 2 win off ten hits. Ralph Kennedy took the win on the Kendal mound after coming in to relieve Doug Taylor in the fourth inning with the score tied at one all. . A three-bagger by Norton in the ninth- inning and a single by Robinson resulted in these two scoring to give the Eagles a 3 - 1 edge. Fraser Wallace made the defensive game of the game when he leaned over the fence to nab a long drive and -cut off a home run. Kendal added to their lot on Sunday before almost four hundred fans in Kendal with a 11-6 win over Bowmanville. The Eagles proving a good hitting team this mounted fourteen hits in the game. Bill McCollough went into the sixth inning pitching for Kendal with relief from Mike Carman. Kendal started off with four runs in the opening frame, one in the third and three each in the fifth and sixth. As such they held the lead throughout the nine innnings of play. Bruce Alldred was 3 for 4 at bat with four runs, Bill Robinson 2 for 4 for five runs and Fraser Wallace 2 for 4. Dan Norton, in left field, had nine put outs in the game. The hitting power for the .Eagles has been paying off in their recent games. Fall fair GERALD ROBINSON BRINGING THEM HOME AT KAWARTHA Gerald Robinson posted four wins at the Kawartha last week and was a close second on a number of other occasions. The first win of the week came on Tuesday night when he drove Elm Grove Chief to a dead heat win with Mr. Wiskey in| a time of 2.08.3. Then on Thursday evening he went for another win in the sixth race driving Keomo in a time of 2.11.1. Saturday was a hay-day for Robinson with two wins and two second place finishes. In the sixth race he won with Sesame Pick in a time of 2.07.4 returning in the eighth for a second place finish driving Perry. The eighth race was won by Steven's Pick in 2.03. In the ninth race Robinson posted his second win of the night driving Sterling Kingtime in 2.04. His return to the track in the tenth saw him drive Karn's Comet to a second place finish. Also on Tuesday night he finished thrid with Boge. Derek Newman came up with a win on Saturday evening driving Carman Chuck in the second race in a time of 2.10.2. He was also second with Big Bad Gene in the opening race and third with Vegas Bob in the sixth race. On Thursday evening Newman was second with P.J. in the first and again second in the seventh race driving Bae State Swinger. Frank Stacey came in for a win on Thursday driving Wil Lor Amy, his own horse, in 2.10.1. Keith West drove to a second place finish with Hilltop Class with the win going to Hieland Champ in 2.08.2. Last Saturday Junior West was second with Blaed, third with Banker Ben and fifth with Brave Baren and Lucky Streak. He was third with Nickawampus in the fifth race on Tuesday which win went to J. B. Senator who has won seven of its ten starts this year. William Reids Princess Karen was second in the opening race on Tuesday. ORONO NIGHT AT THE KAWARTHA RACEWAY This Saturday night is Orono night at the Kawartha Downs raceway with local Orono merchants participating by providing coolers for the winners and providing free passes from their establishments to the races. Refer to advertisement in this issue of the Times for the participating businesses where you can obtain a free admittance pass. BUD ROLPH TO DRIVE AT THE KAWARTHA O.W. (Bud) Rolph will take a trip àround the track this coming Saturday at the Kawartha it being Orono night at the raceway. Bud is well known for his former keen competition in driving classes at local fairs and the Royal Winter.
