CLOSE COLDSPRING BOY'S CAMP The forest camp operated at ; Coldsprings, on the boundary line between Hope and the former Clarke Township has been closed out by the Pine Ridge School for boys. Over the years the camp has operated with boys from the BoWmanville school on a continual yearly basis. It has been the opportunity: for a great number of boys to become associated with the great outdoors. Often crews would assist with duties in the Durham and Ganaraska Forests Forests relating to forestry and stream improvements. At the present time the department keeps a constant guard at the premises. Lots of activity at Orono beef barbecue The annual Beef Barbeque held in the Orono Park last Wednesday evening was again again well supported by both in and out-of-town residents. Not only was everyone served a delicious and bountiful roast beef dinner but also a jammed >acked evening of entertain- nent. As usual the outdoor barbeque barbeque of roast beef was the major attraction with plenty of beans, salad, baked potatoes, potatoes, rolls, coffee and soft drink. THe diners came early and stayed until the last event was held. Activities for the day started started at 4:30 with hyo T Ball games by the very young; Following the dinner the Newcastle Council and staff took a 13 - 8 win over the boys from Regional council in a game of softball. The game provided some .antics as well as some ball. Mayor Rickard played first base for the local with Counc. Cowman on second and Counc. Counc. Allin on third. Counc. Cowman had her only chance to make an out on a fly ball foiled by the Mayor as he; interfered with the play. It will never be known if Counc. Ann could have caught the ball. It was announced earlier in the evening that if the Mayor did not hit a home run he would jump in the creek. It must have been a rumour for the homer didn't come nor did the dip into the creek. Councillor Lyall, did not appear as a player on the field but did appear to have something under his hat for the boys on the diamond on one brief appearance at the pitcher's mound Rod Craig and his musical group presented some fine music for the evening which was greatly enjoyed by all those present. Stirling Mather, Mather, as usual, kept the show moving as master of ceremonies ceremonies The Beef Barbeque was jointly sponsored by the, Orono and Area Chamber of Commerce and the Recreation Recreation Department of the Town of Newcastle and was billed as "Newcastle Day in Orono" Can 7 ! find senior citizen apartments NDP Doug Moffatt continues continues to hammer away at local election issues in the Riding of Durham East.
