S-- Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, August 27tfc_197* _ waeuu KENDAL EAGLES OUT OF THE O.B.A. FINALS The Kendal Eagles were eliminated from the OBA playoffs on Sunday by the Ivy Leafs, by a score of 12 to 8. The first game of the series played in Ivy on Saturday when Kendal was outscored 9 to 7. Kendal was outhit 27 to 29 over the two game series which tells how close the games actually were. The Kendai Eagles wish the Ivy Leafs good iuck on their route to the OBA Championship. The Eagles wôuld also like to thank the local fans for their support throughout the year. The EOBA League Palydowns are still to be played but as yet no dates have been set. HUNTING LICENCE EXAMINATION CENTRE IN ORONO With the small game season just around the corner, September 27th, those wishing to obtain hunting licences for the the first time must take an examination. The Ministry of Natural Resources has arranged a number of examination centres tnrougnout me district with Orono being included in the list. The Orono Centre will operate on August 28th from 9.00 a m. to noon and again on September 5th from 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. Examinations are by appointments only. Contact LOCAL HORSEMEN AT THE KAWARTHA Last Tuesday an Orono horse posted a win in the second race of the night. Princess Karen took that win being owned by William Reid. Gerald Robinson took a win in the sixth race driving Elm Grove Chief while Frank Stacey had to settle for a sixth place in the third race driving his own horse, Wil Lor Amy. Junior West posted the only Orono win on Thursday night. The win came with a drive with Banker Ben in 2.07.3 in the eighth race. Gerald Robinson was third in the same race driving Snowman Pero, Derek Newman had a good night of racing placing third with P. J., second with Big Bad Gene and fourth with Cyprus Joe. Saturday night Jumor West came up with a further wiir driving Larry Boyd's horse, Hilltop Anders in the ninth race. He also placed second in the opening race with Lady Donna and fourth with Canal View Way. Gerald Robinson was third with Keomo in the sixtl with the win going to Doc Lindsay in 2.07. Further to the report the board decided to hold a meeting with the Ministry of Transportaion and Communication Communication in the near future and that at that time request the Ministry to install traffic lights at the entrance to the schools. The report recevied by the board regarding the entrance to the schools note that a number of improvements have been made including a left-hand storage lane for southbound traffic, a lane for through traffic on thé west side of the road and additional no parking signs. Further illumination is to be carried out at the entrance to the schools from the highways and this work is expected to be carried out this fall by the ministry.
