These motorcycles are 550 pound powerful 1200 cc Harley Davidsons equipped with radios, flashing lights and first aid equipment. The group is composed of fifteen volunteers from the province with training being under the supervision of Corporal John Arnold of the Whitby detachment. The petite carnival also included other games, ring toss and had most of the kids and a few adults in attendance for a two day period. A number of draws were held in connection with the carnival with Mrs. B. Reid winning the desk set, Gary Bridger winning the Snoopy Dog and Jackie West the box ofchocolat.es. The two promoters had plenty of help from other friends in operating the carnival carnival 'and all was a great success over the two-day period of the show, fjappemngs... Residents in the Orono Estates were aroused late last, week when dirt taken from infunctioning septic tile beds was being dumped along the stream in the area of the western entrance into the sub-division. Oshawa Sand and Gravel have been hired by the developers to correct illfunc- tioning septic systems with the result that tile beds are being dug up in the sub-division sub-division to be replaced. The soil from these beds was being dumped along the stream. Residents were concerned over possible pollution of the stream and were less than happy with the smell. The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Durham Health Unit were contacted in this matter with the hope that the dumping of dirt along the Conservatives 41,000 VOTERS IN DURHAM EAST . . LNDALISM AT ORONO PARK Vandalism at the Orono Park was at a minimum during the summer months except for the past week-end when considerable damage was done to the washrooms a r d I he booth broken into. Plans have been finalized by the conservatives to hold a giant annual picnic at Fan- tasyland in Whitby on September September 7th. It would appear that the show should he better than ever as the saying goes. Really there has been a number of changes and they appear all to the good to provide more entertainment for the thousands who will be in attendance over the two and a half day period. The Golden Helmet motorcycle motorcycle precision ride is an ideal way to open the fair and this happens at 7.00. p.m. on Thursday evening. Along with the Golden Helmets the Durham Durham Black and White show will be held along with the team drawing competition in front of the grandstand. Friday has traditionally been children day and this will again be the case this vear with the' school parade and prizes for various floats' bikes and pets. The midway will be open and all exhibits will be open for viewing. Friday evening harness racing racing takes over with pari-mu- tual betting. Saturday's activities start shortly after; noon with the Ontario Regimental band in attendance at noon continuing throughout the day with a host of events of judging in all departments. A feature will be the appearance of George Hamilton IV during the afternoon afternoon and for the dance in the evening to be held in the Orono Arena, The list of exhibits ranges from flowers to 1 vegetables, baking, needlecraft, hoses, cattle, sheep, rabbits, chickens,etc, chickens,etc, etc. Plan now to attend the fair starting this Thursday evening evening with the colourful and skillful Golden Helmets. Open dam tenders At a meeting of the Executive Executive Committee last week of the Ganaraska Conservation Authority tenders were opened opened for the reconstruction of Ball's dam at Baltimore. The committee approved the tender of Ganaraska Bridge in the amount of $56,384.00. The awarding of the tender is dependent on other approvals. The highest: tender received amounted to $111,440.
