This, year the mat area is to be larger than last year. Everyone is welcome, HARNESS RACING AT THE ORONO FAIR Harness racing plays a big part in the annual production at the Orono Fair as was the case again this year. 1 Some $12,000 was placed through the mutuals an increase over last year with a similar size crowd at the races. Joe Caruana's hor§e, Artie Frost took a double win on the card in the fifth and ninth. Derek Newman placed second in the fifth with Vegas Bob and in the ninth finished third. Keith Wood driving his own horse Cadenza won the Businessmen's Trot on Saturday afternoon. ORONO LONG'S FASHION GIRLS IN FINALS The OronO Long's Fashion girls softball team are in the League finals and are one game up over Hampton B team in this series. The local girls came up with a 14 to 11 win over the Hampton entry in the first game of the series. The second game of the series is to be played tonight, Wednesday in Hampton at 6.30 with the third and final game being played in Orono on Friday evening, if necessary. GIRLS SOFTBALL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT On Saturday, September 20th a Girls Softball Regional tournament will be held in Bowmanville at the Memorial park, Liberty Street South. There will be two teams from Orono, Bowmanville and Hampton. The two teams from Orono will be the Long Fashion team and the Kinsmen team. The tournament is a knock out series of games with the first game being played at 10.00 a.m. and the final game scheduled for 2.00 p.m. MOTHER AND DAUGHTER OUTING AT ORONO PARK. This Saturday at the Orono park commencing at 2.00 p.m. the Orono Girls of the various local softball teams will be playing the mothers in a game of softball. Following the game the entire group will partake of a picnic, with wieners the main course. HOCKEY ENROLMENT TO EQUAL 1975 Hockey registrations were held last week by the Orono Amateur Athletic Association. Over 170 boys have alread'- , enrolled in the various Orono teams with more expected lat on. This will compare with enrolment in this sport in Orono iir 1974. Hockey practices are already underway for If Orono teams with try-outs being held for the OMHA entiWr The practices are being held in Bowmanville.
