H. "Snuffy"' Smith. The Ontario's mustering only seven tanks and supported by 81 man riffle company from the Van Doos, defeated the crack German first parachute Division. "C" Squandron and "C" Company tank infantry team took and held Casa Berardi for five days until relief arrived. Heavy looses were substained in both men and tanks. Captain Triquit was awarded the Victoria Cross and Major Smith was awarded the Military Cross. The battle for Casa Berardi is depicted in a large oil painting by Arnold Hodgkins which hangs in the Officer's Mess of The Ontario Regiment. Regiment. This important work will be on view during the exhibition at the Gallery. The Ontario Regiment served served on the Ortona-Orsogna, winning their battle honours at Cassio II, Santi Angelo, the Liri Valley, Aquino and Sanati Ucchio. Many of the paintings in this exhibition were done 'on the spot;' by the war artist for the Canadian Government. The exhibition has been organized by Margot Samuels for the Robert McLaughlin Gallery to commenmorate 30 years in the Durham Region since the end of World War Two. Junior gardeners for their first meeting of the fall, with a smaller attendance attendance than usual. The Seniors were to make g ement > corsages and the Juniors nosegays but instead everyone everyone learned how to make a corsage. Some had brought their own flowers and Mrs, Zegers supplied flowers and greenery.
