ORONO STATESMEN WINNERS OF LOB BALL Lob-Ball became a popular sport in the area this summer involving some ten teams and at least 150 players. There were four teams playing out of Orono, two from Newtonville, two from Newcastle with further teams from Bowmanville and Tyrone. It is expected that more teams will be in the schedule when it again opens up in 1976. It has been termed a great success and a game which everyone can take part. The championship for the league was decided recently when the Orono Statesmen team took the series three games to one over the St. Mary's Cement entry. St. Mary's won the opening game 6-4. The locals then took the next three games by scores of 17-8, 27-8 and 15-5. ORONO HORSEMEN BREAK OUT AT KAWARTHA It was beginning to look that local Orono drivers were not to accomplish too much at the Kawartha last week. They went through Thursday without a win only to break out in the . fourth on Saturday night with the first win followed by four further victories. The locals shared a string of five victories in all. Gerald Robinson started the affair in the fourth race when he drove Nancy's Duke to the win which was the horse's sixth win in thirty starts. Keith West followed with his victory in the fifth race driving Hilltop Class for its fifth win in ten starts this year. In the sixth race Derek Newman booted home a victory with Bae State Swinger in 2.08.3 with Junior West placing third driving Banker Ben, It then became Junior West's turn and in the seventh he placed Red Red Rose in the winner's circle with a time of 2.07.4. Gerald Robinson completed the five stringer in the eighth with a time of 2.06.4 driving Sesame Pick. Junior West returned in the ninth but was edged out by Waybrook Debut and had to settle for second place driving Hilltop Anders.
