John Thompson, on behalf of the Kendal Eagles, presented presented the Roy Sleep Memorial trophy to Fraser Wallace at the annual meeting of the Eagles club on Saturday. The presentation was made in recognition of the effort that Fraser Wallace had put into the operation for the club in Kendal over the past three years. Fraser Wallace stated that he had enjoyed the work as well as the association with the team and would do everything possible in the future to see that the sport continued in Kendal. Ronnie West, MVP in 1972 was not present to receive his award. mm mm mmmmmm•e ee Kendal Eagles hold annual meeting The Kendal Eagles baseball club of Kendal held their annual meeting last Saturday afternoon in the new community community centre and arena at Bewdley with a good number in attendance. Ralph Kennedy, the outgoing outgoing president, stated that the Eagles were a community group interested not only in baseball but the affairs of the community and the development development of the park. Through the reports from 1975 season it was demonstrated that the club had operated most sue cessfuly with an increase in attendance at the games and ending the season with a bank balance of $1,055.57. Total expenditures for the year amounted to $2,009,83 with the largest single expenditure being that for umpires, $368.00. ■ John' Quantrill was elected president of the club for the coming season with Fraser Wallace being elected vice- president. Roy Allin Foster was elected sec.-treas. with Ralph Kennedy, Bill Robinson and John Robinson elected as directors for the club. NO DRINKING IN BALL PARKS Sanford Haskill, president of the Eastern Ontario Baseball Baseball Association was the guest speaker for the afternoon and stated that the league this year would be stamping out drinking at ball games. He said they would be asking the OPP to assist them in enforcing this rule. He also cited changes that some clubs were endeavouring to incorporate incorporate into the league. He said Kendal should be interested in these proposed changes because because it would make it almost impossible for small centres to operate. He said the changes would be a financial burden for the small centre and that he opposed such changes. m m m m m m m m m m m VISVAL ARTS The Visual Arts Centre commences a new season of courses on. Saturday, December December (i with a day-long water- colour painting workshop under under the direction of Laurene Sage. A resident of Oshawa, Mrs. Sage presently teaches in the evening programme at Durham Durham College. She has had numerous gallery showings and won prizes in varius exhibits. She wa recently awarded the "Canadian Wat ercolour Society Purchase Award" Many of her works are available for rent from the McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa and Whitby Arts. The workshop" will focus on the use of styrofoam. as a printing medium: Registration Registration fee is $ 10.00 and supplies will he available on the day at a minimal cost. -Further information on the course and registration may be obtained by phoning Jean de Blois at 623-2196. Midgets took a 3-2 victory over Newcastle last week in a league game, ORONO ATOMS FACE STIFF COMPETITION The Orono O.M.H.A. Atoms faced some stiff competition in two games with Port Perry over the past week. Wednesday evening Port Perry took a 10-2 victory over the local team. Duffy Hamre and J. D. Urbanic scored the two Orono goals with Peter Bolton assisting on both. On Friday night Port Perry came up with a 6-1 victory with the lone Orono goal being scored by Jeff Mitchell. ORONO+ NEWCASTLE BATAMS PLAY TO A DRAW Last Saturday the Orono and Newcastle O.M.H.A. Bantams played a league game resulting in a three-all tie. Newcastle opened the scoring with a goal by Donald Rowley. Orono tied the score two minutes later on a goal by Ken Evans from Marcel Charland. Ten minutes later Orono went out in front when Pat Williams scored with assists to Mike Mitchell and Ron Talsma. Newcastle tied the score before the end of the second period on a goal by Dean Walker. Ken Evans with his second goal of the evening then put Orono on top 3-2. The goal was assisted by Ron Talsma. This lead was short-lived when one minute later Tom Dwyer on a pass from Mark Berbey tied the game. The Orono crew playeda fine game with close checking and a team effort. ROAST BEEF ATOMS BLANK MILLBROOK 4-0 The Roast Beef atoms played their first game of the season in the United Counties league taking a 4-0 win over Millbrook. A superb -effort was put forth by the entire team. Scott Prescott broke the ice for Orono with the first goal and carried on to assist in two others. The other goals were scored by Danny Cowan, Billy Storsbergen and Randy Tennant. Don Stevens stood firm in goal earning the shut-out for his team. The next game for the Atoms is in Orono on Friday night at 7.15 p.m. O.M.H.A. PEEWEES On Friday, November 21st the PeeWees played in Port Perry. The first period saw lots of action but no scoring. Orono popped a goal in at 2.29 of the second period off the stick of Pete Krukbert. A minute later Dennis Klawitter scored with assist to Joe Davis. Port Perry came back in the third period to tie the game at 2-2. John Bolton and Alan Wester played a solid game for the orono team. On Saturday the Newcastle PeeWees were in the Village for the second Orono home game of the season. The first period was scoreless. Newcastle however scored three unanswered goals in the second period. Duane Major slapped one in for Orono at .45 seconds of the third period unassisted. The game went to Newcastle 3-1. Dan Mitchell and Kevin Talsma played well in goal for Orono in both games. As well Paul Reed and Paul King turned in fine games. TWO WINS AT MOHAWK RACEWAY Last week Junior West registered two wins at the Mohawk raceway. The wins came on a drive with Larwill Don a horse owned by William and Larry Boyd as well as a drive with Sargent's Amber, a horse owned by Charles Peakes of Orono. West also drove to a win on Saturday night at the Kawartha. The win came in the third race with Wil Lor Amy, owned by Frank Stacey of Orono. Keith West in the sixth race won with a time of 2.10.1 driving his own horse Hieland Champ. Junior West weas second with Stewart's Flyer in the eighth race.
