6-7-Or.on0'Weekly Times, Wednesday, January 11m, ia76 Local Sports RACING RESUMES AT THE RAWARTHA Come this Sunday, January 17th harness racing will be resumed at the Rawartha Raceway . Post-time is 1.30 p.m. Of course this will arouse interest locally even though most local drivers and owners have been keeping busy at other tracks during the over-season# the Rawartha. Gerald Robinson drove to two wins in Barrie over the past week and also picked up two third place finishes. Cliff Francis' ,Wil Lor Amy driven by Robinson was both first and third as was Mighty Mustang trained by Frank Stacey and driven by Gerald Robinson. Gerald Robinson was also first at the Greenwood driving Artie Frost owned by Gay Meadow Farms of Orono. Keith West took a second place finish at the Greenwood driving his own horse Highland Champ. Junior West was first with William and Larry Boyd's horse, Larwill Don. ORONO ATOMS PLAY STRONGEST GAME OF SEASON The Orono Atoms came up with their strongest game of the season on Monday night when they took a 4-0 win over the Bowmanville Toros. The. boys were certainly inspired and the large ice surface at Hampton did not curtail their play. Orono goals were scored by Duff Hawsë, J.D. Urbanic, Pete Bolton and Don Doxtater. On January 3rd the local boys played in a tournament in Port Hope winning their-first game 3-1 against a Cobourg entry but losing the next game to Pickering 3-0. In a second game with Pickering in Pickering the locals were blanketed 6-0. O.M.H.A. BANTAMS PLAY THREE WEEKEND GAMES The Orono Bantams played three week-end games with the first on Friday night in Stoufville. "The Orono team came up with a strong game against this top club losing by only one goal in a 4-3 count. The Orono goals were by David Hutton from Stephen Haynes, Tom Gustar with two goals with assists to Ren Evans, Pat Williams with .two and Stephen Haynes. Gary Bridget played a fine game in "the Orono nets. Saturday night the Orono crew were short in their game with Port Hope who took a 7-1 win. The lone Orono goal came off the stick of Ren Evans on a play with Tom Gustar and Preston Long. Sunday evening Orono played an exhibition game with Ops Township taking a 2-1 win. David Hutton opened the scoring on a play with Stephen Haynes. Stephen Haynes scored the winner on a pass out from Marcel Charland. The Orono O.M.H.A. Bantams are entered in a play-off series with eight other teams which will include Ops, Woodville, Oakwood, Little Britain, Sunderland, Minden and Rinmount. It is expected that the series, a best of three games, will start in the very near future. The Orono PeeWees and Orono Midgets are also enter in the same category meeting teams from the same area in their play-down bids. ORONO HORNETS DEFEAT MILLBROOK FLYERS The Orono Hornet PeeWees defeated the Millbrook Flyers by a score of 4-3 on January 9th. Ian Morley netted two of the Orono goals with the others off the sticks of Glen Evans and Revin Philips. Terry Coombes played and outstanding game in the Orono nets. The Hornets now have a record of 5 wins, one tie and one lose. f ORONO FLYERS HAVING DIFFICULTY The Orono PeeWee Flyers were defeated on December 20th by the Millbrook Flyers, 6-4. The Orono goals were shared by Bret Johnson, Steven Woods, Bret Johnson .and Todd Miller. 11 Assists went to Steven Wood, Ren Prescott, Steven Graham. The local Flyers were also defeated by the Millbrook Wings by a score of 7-2 Ren Prescott scored for Orono with assists to Bret Johnson and Earl Atkins. The second Orono goal was by Neil Rousseau with an assist to Ren Prescott. On January 10th Orono again went down to ( defeat at the hands of the Bewdley squad at this time. Ren Prescott opened the scoring for Orono unassisted and picked up his second goal of the night on a penalty shot. Steven Woods scored the other Orono goal with assist to none other than Ren Prescott. Bewdley won the game 8-3. ... THE ORONO CAMSPORT TYKES DOING WELL In three games over the week-end the Orono Camsport Tÿkes came up witn two wins ana a tie. i nursday they playea to a tie with Newcastle with Bradley Roberts scoring the Orono goal. On Saturday morning the Orono team took a 4-0 from Newcastle when Bradley Roberts scored a hat trick, three goals. The other goal went to John Cowan. Assists were credited to Bradley Roberts, Eric Dreslinsk, Reith Vey and Ren Bailey. On Saturday afternoon the Camsport PeeWees again took to the ice and defeated Bewdley by a score of 6-0. Paul 1 Henry this time turned in the hat trick while Bradley Roberts netted two counters and Bill Buchanan a single. Assists went to Ren Bailey, Colin West, Bradley Roberts and Bill Buchanan. Needless to say the Orono Camsport Tykes are playing good hockey in their league and age group. PLAY LAST LEAGUE HOME GAME On Saturday, January loth the Stouffville O.M.H.A. PeeWees were in town for the last Orono home game for the season. Orono opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Duane Major from Dennis Rlawitter and Joe Davis. During the second period our boys slowed down 'and Stouffville scored four goals. In the third Orono opened the scoring again with another goal by Duane Major from Dennis Rlawitter. Stouffville added another to end the scoring at 5-2. Pete Rrukhert and the third line, William VanSegglen, Paul Ring and Steve Stec played well for Orono. ORONO FIGURE SKATERS PASS TESTS The following Orono skaters successfully passed tests in figures and dance at tests of the club held on Sunday, January 11th, 1976.
