The case of the missing Newcastle Village boat ramp has reached the 1 Federal level and a letter has been dispatched dispatched th Allan Lawrence, M.P., requesting a meeting in the Village to discuss the problem. This information was released by Councillor Kenneth E. Lyall in a néws release over the past weekend. weekend. The saga of the boat ramp started back in the I950's w.hen a group of Newcastle • Village volünteers, realizing the need of a site to launch small tioats, built a ramp extending into the creek at the bld hârbour. For many years the boat ramp was used by fishermen and other district small boaters till the $160,000 constructing constructing job building a new breakwater at the Newcastle hàrtiour got; underway. When the contractors for the Federal Department of Public Works ended the job, the boat ramp has disappear ed. "Now there is no public boat ramp and anyone who want to put a small boat into the water at Newcastle Harbour Harbour is forced to use the facilities on the west side of the creek and pay a charge for the service", Mr. Lyall stated. According to Councillor Lyall, the site needed for a boat ramp would be on Federal property and as the contractor's- for the Federal Government were responsible responsible for doing away with the former ramp, the problem is one for the Federal Government Government to solve. "It has been determined that this is not a municipal matter", he said. "When Allan Lawrence sets a date when he will be available to discuss the subject, subject, a public meeting will be called when interested persons persons can meet with their Member of Parliament and discuss- the problem", Mr. Lyall concluded.
