.8 - Orono Weekly Times, March 10, 1976 MR. ROAST BFÆF ATOMS FALL .2 BEHIND ' The 'Mr. Roast Beef* Atoms fell two games behind thé Bewdley Atoms in a best 3 out of 5 series . for the U.C.H.L. Championship which began this past week-end. On Friday night, the Beef-eaters fought a close battle that ended in a 5 - 3 score for Bewdley. Bewdley opened the scoring with one goal before Orono got on track. Greg Philips opened the locals scoring on a break-away set-up by Randy Tennant and Scott Prescott. Bewdley went ahead again, only to have Scott Richards tie the score once again on a pass from Danny Cowan, Orono went ahead on a goal from Scott Prescott set-up by Blair Venoit. Bewdley then got three unanswered goals to round out the scoring 5 to 3. On Saturday, Orono travelled to Bewdley only to come out on the short end of a 6 - 0 routing. Don Stevens kept the score to a respectible level stopping 30 to 36 shots whereas the Bewdley net minder faced only 7 shots. Next s game is. on Saturday in Bewdley - LET'S GO BEEF-EATERS. ORC NO O.M.H.A. PEEWEES On Tuesday, March 2, the Orono 0. M.H.A. PeeWees hosted the Newcastle P.W. in an exhibition game. Orono opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Jim Moffatt with assists to Dennis Klawitter and Alan Webster. Newcastle scored in the third period to tie the game 1 - 1. On Saturday night Peterboro was in town for a game. Our boys, although there were six away, beat the Pëterborô team 6 - 4. Alan Webster opened the scoring in the first period from Paul King. In the second period Paul Reed got one from Paul King and Alan Webster. Then Duane Major added another with assists to Terry Hedges and Joe Davis. Steve Stec got an unassisted goal to. end the second. Peterboro then got on |he scoreboard with two goals. Peter Krulhert from Steve Stec and Duane Major was the next goal with Paul Reed from Paul KÏfig getting our last goal wljile Peterboro added two more to end the game. ATOMS LOSE 1, TIE 1 IN BEST OF 5 SERIES WITH OPS Oshawa Crane Atoms lost: 1st game 3 - 2 at home Wednesday March 3. Goal scorers for Orono were. Glyn Jenkins and Peter Bolton. Assist went to Rodhey Armstrong. Player of the game award went to Glyn Jenkins. ■ . The 2nd game was played Sunday at Ops. The score at the end of regulation time was tied at 2 - 2. After 10 mins, overtime the scbre was still tied but at 4 - 4. The Orono boys fell behind 4 -2 in overtime period, but rallied to tie the game. Peter Bolton picked up where he left off Wednesday scoring 2 goals, singles went to Duff Harare and David Groskoff, assists went to Don Doxtater (2) and Duff'Harare (1). Jeff Mitchell played well in net. Peter Bolton was selected player of the game. The 3rd game in the series is scheduled for Wednesday March 10 in Orono at 7 p.m, and the 4th game in Ops Sunday at 5 p.m. three goal effort sparks WIN FOR CAMSPORT TYKES A three goal effort by Bradley Roberts was enough to put the Camsport Tykes out in front of Newcastle Tykes by a score of 3 - 1. Newcastle goal was scored by Eddie Bands tra. Darin Dennis assisted oh two goals while John Cowan came in for one assist. ANOTHER THREE GOAL EFFORT BR1NGSA WIN TO ORONO NOVICE Paul Rosseaucame up with a hat trick netting three goals to spark his team to a 5-2 win bver Newcastle last Friday. Steven Clapdorp and Greg Vey netted the . other two Orono goals. Assists went to Dean Faiers for 2, Roger King, Duncan Walker, Stephen Murree, Steven Clapdorp and Paul Rosseau. ORONO BANTAMS CATCHING FIRE The Orono Bantams have of late been on a hot streak and during the past week took a 8-0 win over Omemee. David Sunstrum netted two goals along with two assists. David Hutton also netted two along with an assist while Pat Williams came in for a single and three assists, Tom Gustar for a goal and two assists, Ken Adams and Stephen Haynes each for a goal and an assist.Assists also went to Stephen Clark and Michael Mitchell. Dale Dubeau and Gary Bridger earned the shut-out sharing duties in the Orono nets. GERALD ROBINSON POSTS TWO WINS Gerald Robinson came up with two wins over the week with one coming in the first race at the Kawartha on Sunday. Robinson drove Tough Gier to the win and returned in the second race of the card to finish in second place with Our Lad. Derek Newman drove to a third place finish in the same race with Vanduke Celer. The race was won by Andy's Comet. Robinson also drove to a win at the Greenwopd with Mighty Mustang, a horse trained by Frank Stacey. i Junior West drove Homer Way to a win at the Greenwood. Again this horse is being trained by Frank Stacey. West took third position with his wife's horse, Hilltop Anders, at the Greenwood. Muddy George, owned by Lawrence Hooey of Orono, continues to be a real competitor and placed second recently in Toronto. Back at the Kawartha Derek Newman finished second with Big Bad Gene with the win going to Toss A Coin. In the sixth race Junior West finished fourth with Hoot Van, while Derek Newman .was sixth with Bae State Swinger. The win went to Duncan Herbert. Pine Ridge Kinettes to hold Bake Sale and Tea On Saturday, April 24th the Great Pine Ridge Kinette Club are holding an afternoon bake sale, tea and Senior Citizens Crafts, Any Senior Citizen wishing to enter any home-made item for sale is asked to contact Carol King, 983-9249 fo'r further information. He was born on the' Morgan homestead - 85 years ago. The youngest son of Prudence and Frank Morgan.- * He purchased his uncle's farm just west of the homestead, homestead, prior to his marriage to Jean Mitilda Tysick on April 7, 1920; where they lived and farmed for 45 years. He retired in Orono on October of 1964. His wife preceased him in March of 1972. He leaves to mourn his loss; a son Roy of Orono, Velma (Mrs. Don Myles) Bowmanvilie, Doreen (Mrs. Jack Bairstow) Orono and four granddaughters and one great granddaughter. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. No. 436 Orono Lodge for over 50 years. Reverend H. R. Haynes officiated at the funeral service, held at the 'Lang Chapel on Thursday, February February 12,1976. Interment will be in the Orono Cemetery m the spring. The m,any floral tributes, donations to the I.O.O.F. Lodge; Ontario Heart Heart Fund and other charitable donations were tokens of the esteem in which he was held.
