Regional council last week asked all standing committees committees to contribute to the $1,1 million cut,in net regional spending in an attempt to reduce the region's portion of the tax increase from 28 per cent to 18.5. The increased revepue by implementing these rate' hikes hikes will be about $78,000.: -, Cut From The Hip TQWN OF NEWCASTLE ONTARIO HOME RENEWAL PROGRAM Notice to Town of Newcastle Homeowners PURPOSE OF THE ONTARIO HOME RENEWAL PROGRAM ( O.H.R.P. ) The purpose of O.H.R.P. is to provide financial assistance to owner occupants of residential properties to rehabilitate their homes to local standards as approved by the Ministry of Housing. The program is particularly directed to the rehabilitation of substand : ard dwellings, with emphasis on faulty structural and sanitary conditions, and the up-grading of plumbing, heating and electrical system. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO HOME OWNERS A system of loans (repayable and foregiven) to pay for flie property rehabilitation is available to Town of Newcastle homeowners whose "adjusted family income" does not exceed $12,500. The interest rate of the, loan, and the amount of the forgivable portion or grant of the loan, is geared to family incomé. The maximum amount of the loan shall not exceed $7,500.00 apd repayment of the loan, excluding the forgivable .portion or grant, commences after completion of improvements.
