Three weeks ago, I; rebeivcd a letter from Fan- s lia we College in London requesting me to be in room 1)2003 in D Block at 9:45 on Tuesday March 9. , When I arrived, I was asked to write the answers to two questions ; the first - "Why do you want to be a journalist?" and the second - "Why should Fanshawe accept you?" I had ten minutes in which to, answer the questions. After I had completed that, I had another test to write. This test included more personal questions questions as well as a 3 page Canadian Student Survey. In this section of thé test, I was asked to identify people like Emily Murphy, Margaret Thatcher, Harry Boyle and David Bowie. Finally, it came time for my interview. I was really surprised when 1 was asked questions like "Are you an perservering person, how dichotomy ana cognizance are you and if I thought I was a very creative person or not". Alter my interview was completed, I was taken on a tour to see their journalism facilities. When 1 returned from my tour, T was told that 1 would be informed if I was accepted or not within a week. by Jo-anne Danilko Lockhart's "School ' On Thursday, March 11 the students of Lockhart Public School went to Newcastle Public Arena for their final skating trip of the year. There hadt been two previous skating skating trips for the students this year,' The students' left the school at one o'clock and skated from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Some parents volunteered to iirive the primary students to the arena and help them with their skates. • The students from Lockhart received their report cards on - Friday, March 12, 1976. • The Walt Disney Cartoon Film "Robin Hood" was. presented to grades 1 to six on Tuesday, March 16. It was shown in the gymnasium and thé film began at 12 noon. The admission price was thirty five cents per pupil. The Pines SENIOR PUBLIC SCHOOL At seven thirty to nine thirty on Friday, March 12, Pines Senior Public School presented Robert Louis Stevenson's Stevenson's "Kidnapped" which starred Peter Finch, James MacArtbur and Bernard Lee to a crowd of sixty people. By Annette Stephenson WEDDING ANNIVERSARY At assembly on March 16th it was announced that it was Mr.. Don Smith's second wedding anniversary. Mrs. Smith teaches grade 2. House League Grades 4, 5 and 6 from Orono Public School are divided into house league teams. The pupils have already already completed soccer, volleyball volleyball and this week are completing floor hockey. " by Heather Watson Hot Dog Day On Friday, February 27, Orono Public School held a hot dog day. Over 3 hundred hot',dogs were eaten by the pupils. A few children from each class will be presenting their play or skit on a specified date during this week. / by Krista Brad^ Gymnastics Competition A gymnastics competition was recently held in the Orono Public School gymnasium. gymnasium. The instructors were Nancy Dykerpan and Jim Brennan from Clarke High School. The pupils felt that they were very good instructors instructors . We had a little competition competition at tfte end of one month of training.' There were three groups begihner, intermediate intermediate and advanced. ■ Beginners first place was 'awarded to Brenda Rodd during the intermission. An adult bingo will be held in the Brownsdale Community Community Centre on Wednesday, March 24. The proceeds are for the grade 8 students of Pines Senior Public School, who plan to' go on an educational {rip to Quebec on April 12, 13, 14, and 15th. I could have danced aII night? A uance-A-Thon was held at Clarke High School on Friday, March 12, with one hundred and fifty people attending. Proceeds from the dance went towards the ■ yearbook. $200.00 was accumulated accumulated for this project. The dance commenced at 4:00 p.m. and ended at 12:00 midnight. The music was pre-recorded on a reel-to-reel stereo tape and the stage band "Just in Time" performed performed from 8-9. The students council set up a snack bar and sold pizza slices, apples, drinks and pies. Education Board Tables Decision The Northumberland, and Newcastle Board of Education Education tabled a recommendation that the Board discontinue two pilot programs associated associated with the education of four year old children. The pilot programs have been carried out in Brighton and Roseneath since September September of 1973 - 74. The report submitted* to the Board on Thursday said it did recognize some benefits did accrue from the program but that there was consider- 1 able cost associated with the course. No. 9 Burelap Wall Hangings Mr. Marvin Lunn, a janitor at Orono Public School and foUr girls are making burelap hangings. The four girls'are .Kathy Bambrick. Kathy Boyle., Lynn Williams, and Bonnie Irwin. To make the burelap hangings hangings they needed a piece off of a burelap sack. - The sacks were then cut up and they drew a picture or design on the burelap bag. However, they were defeated by Nicholson Nicholson and had to be satisfied with second position at the Central Ontario.' Secondary School Association Championship Championship (C.O.S.S.A.), Thursday, Thursday, March 11. Night classes at Clarke High School concluded on Wednesday evening, March 10. Women's recreation, bad- minpton, pottery, quilting, upholstery and leatherwork were the ' courses offered. Mrs. G. Laird, an art teacher at Clarke, was the only teacher from Clarke who instructed a night class.
