According , to complaints received by Councillor Kenneth KEL Lyall, from residents, the pressure fall off was first noticed Friday afternoon when a short power interruption occurred on the PUC lines. ' .; •Checking with Regional water officials, Mr. Lyall was informed that the low water pressure was corrected Saturday and .again Sunday when Region technical people reset the electrical controls governing the area water supply system. "There was always a supply of water-but the pressure was very low". Mr. Lyall was informed. According to information, one phase of a 44 KV power line supplying Orono went out of service for 40 minutes Friday afternoon. It was the failure of this line feeding the Orono PUC that caused the drop in water pressure. . . Plan big jamboree show for April The Town of Newcastle ■Recreation Department has a big show planned for the next Orono Jamboree to be held in Orono on Sunday, April 4th, A total of seventeen guest artists will be on the program, program, and is being billed as "A Special" for the last of the season. The number of family men in Durham Region on welfare declined by 15 in February from the previous month. Thé decrease brought the number down to 389 from 404. Social services commissioner commissioner Doiig Johns attributed the decrease to General Motors recent decision to hire more assembly line workers and to the welfare department's department's tightened rules. General Motors announced in February it would be hiring 335 new workers here. . Mr. Johns also said the welfare department has discouraged discouraged certain people from applying for or receiving welfare. He specifically noted that last month the department started to require welfare recipients to pick up their cheques personally from, a welfare offic if they were able to do so. Bui. ironically. Mr. Johns also attributed an increase in the number of single men on welfare to GM's additional hiring. The number of single men on welfare .increased to 268 from 255 in January. The increase was caused by men coming into the region in search of work after hearing General Motors was hiring.
