Atoms sponsored by Oshawa Crane Rentals keep rolling along backed by super gôaltending and excellent team play. Fri., March 19th, Qrono opened the series in Woodville. After waiting an hour and a half for referees, the bciys put together a hard fought 4-3 victory. Duff Harare scored 2 goals, with singles going to David Groskopf and'Bob Hutton. Assists went to Peter Bolton, J. D. Urbanic, Glyn Jenkins and Rodney Armstrong. Jeff Mitchell played a strong game between the pipes. Duff Harare was chosen player of the game. , The 2nd game Was played in Orono Saturday, March 20th, The Orono boys flayed their finest game of the season defeating Woodville 5 - 2 in overtime. Rodney Armstrong scored the first goal of the game on a pass from Glyn Jenkins and Duff Harare. Woodville came back to tie the score late in the first period, and went ahead 2 -1 early in the 2nd period. Orono tied the game halfway through the third period at 2 - 2 on a goal by Glyn Jenkins with assists going to Duff Harare and Stephen Sawyer. Orono came out strong in the overtime period scoring 3 unanswered goals. Duff Harare broke the tie at the 7:28 min. mark with assists going to Rodney Armstrong and Eddy Ring. Seven seconds later J. D. Urbanic added an insurance goal unassisted. unassisted. With only six seconds left in the game David Groskopf scored with an assist going to J. D. Urbanic. Jeff Mitchell played a standout game in the nets. Since it was' such an excellent team effort the player of the game was* 1 awarded to the Whole team. The neit game of the series will be played in Woodville Thursday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. The boys are hoping for a large turnout of Orono fans to cheer them on « . 'i Novice team wins UGH L Trophy The Orono Newcastle Block Novice Hockey team are the proud owners of the United Counties Hockey League trophy. The one local club was awarded the trophy following a victory in Newcastle on March 17th when they took the game 7 - 2 over their opposition from Newcastle. Greg Vey paced the local boys with four goals while Paul Rosseau came in for two and Steven Clapdorp for a single counter. Robert French, Paul Rosseau, Duncan Walker and Greg Vey were all credited with assists in the game. Needless to say the coaches are very pleased and proud of the boys this year who showed fine sportsmanship and a keen interest in the game. Roast Beef Atoms advance to Championship round The Mr. Roast Beef Atoms will advance to the Championship round of the All Ontario Little N.H.L. House League tournament being held in Omemee this week as a result of a 3 - 2 overtime win on Monday against Newcastle. Newcastle opened the scoring early in the game only to have Randy Tennant tip in a pass from Stephen Bob in a scramble around the Newcastle net. Orono fell behind again in the final period, but, Blair Venoit hit Scott Prescott with a pass and Scott tied the score at 2 putting the game into overtime. Three minutes into the sudden death overtime period, Scott Prescott got a breakaway and put the game away on a play from the corner. This Win gave Orono an automatic 'bye' into the final game to be played on Friday at 3 p.m. If the Beef-eaters win on Friday, they will advance to a 'Grand-Championship' round with an Atom team from the next higher division. This game will be played on Saturday, at 5:00 p.m. Let's get out and support the local team to Orono's first 'All Ontario Little N.H.L. House League' Championship. "Let's go and get 'em Beef-eaters! $985,000 grant for centre Conditional approval of à $985,000 grant toward a recreational recreational building for Trent University has been received from the- provincial .ministry of culture and recreation. The grant, to come from Wintario lottery funds, is offered on the condition that Trent raise, from private sources, an amount equal to at least half the grant. President Tom Nind of Trent, in announcing the grant, said the university was delighted with the news and added that the funds would go a long way to make the university's first recreation building a reality. Trent is the. only Canadian University without without a permanent athletic facility. The building will be used extensively by the Peterborough Peterborough community, said Mr. Nind. Community memberships memberships will be available and the city of Peterborough has approved in principle a use and cost-sharing proposal for the swimming pool.
