Recreation Sport Briefs WOMEN NOT TO BE LEFT OUT IN LOBB BALL Plans are now underway to, establish a Women's League in the Town of Newcastle. The greatest interest seems to be in the Orono area but it is hoped that other areas will show a similar interest. Those women interested are asked to contact either Mrs. Mary Jane Tompkins at 983-9540 or the Department of Recreation. Recreation. LOBB • ball was a most popular sport for a number of men's teams in the Town last year and considerable interest interest was generated in the Orono area. No doubt this has had some effect on interest for the women in this area. HIGH REGISTRATION IN PLAYGROUND TRAINING COURSE The Department of Recreation Recreation points to increased interest interest in the Playground Training Training Course now underway. There are 54 registered in the course which is a decided increase over former years. GIRL'S GYM CLASSES Girl's gym classes have started at both the Kirby and the Lockhart's Public Schools. Schools. The classes started in Kirby on March 30th with classes from 3:45 to 5:15. In Lockhart's the classes started on March 29th and operate on the same hours. SUMMER PLAYGROUNDS The Department of Recreation Recreation are now firming plans for their summer playgrounds and everything seems 'all go' for those that operated last year with the exception of the Kendal operation. Plans include include the operation of the playgrounds in Orono as well as in Newcastle, Newtonville and Brownsdale. Orono Atoms win Little NHL C Division Consolation Orono Atoms sponsored by Oshawa me Rentals travelled to Elm vale iday March 22. In their first game the Atoms lost a close game to Stroud 5-4. Goal scorers for Orono were Glyn Jenkins, David Groskopf, J. D. Urbanic, and Peter Bolton. Assists went to J. D. Urbanic 2, Bob Hutton 2 and David Groskopf 1. In the second game Orono clobbered Port Carling 13 - 0. Goal scorers were Don Doxtater 4, Duff Harare 4, J. D. Urbanic 2, Ted Oster 2, Eddy King 1. Assists went to Peter Bolton 4, Eddy King 3, Rodney Armstrong 3, Ted Oster 2, Glyn Jenkins 2, arid singles to Don Doxtater, Duff Harare and Stephen Sawyer. > v m Friday Orono Atoms defeated Caledeon 5 - 1 to win the Consolation Championship. Goal scorers ' were Glyn Jenkins with a hat trick and singles by J. D. Urbanic and Ted Oster. Assists went to Duff Harare 3, Rodney Armstrong 3, Peter Bolton 1. The'Orono boys Stayed overnight to compete in Grand Consolation Championship. Championship. Only to lose a thriller 3 - 2 "to Wainfleet, c--mo scorers were J. D. Orono Atoms eliminate Wood ville Orono defeated Woodville in 4th game Saturday, March 27 in Orono 6 - 2. Goal scorers for Orono were led by Don Doxtater with a hat trick, Ted Oster with a pair and Duff Harare a single. Assists went to Glyn Jenkins 2, Don Doxtater, J. D. Urbanic, Rodney Armstrong and Eddy King. Jeff Mitchell was again outstanding in goal to back up an excellent team effort. The team was awarded player of the game and Don Doxtater will wear the captains shirt for his excellent performance. In the 3rd game played in Woodville March 25 Orono lost a close game by a 4-2 score. Orono goals went to Peter Bolton and Don Doxtater with assists to Ted Oster and Rodney Armstrong. Player of the . game was Glyn Jenkins. Orono Hornets play in Little NHL Games The Orono Hornet PeeWees were entered in the Little NHL tournament held in Omemee last week and provided a fine showing in their bid for a title. The local squad won their first game but then came up against a' strong team to go down to defeat in the series. The Hornets travelled to Omemee on Tuesday taking on an entry from Beeton. The home team came out the winners by a score of 2-0 with Terry Coombs taking the shut - out in fine fashion in the Orono nets. Warren Nichols startèd Orono out on the right foot when he scored in the opening period on a break away and deked the Beeton goalie. In the second period Warren again found the mark when he finished a play with B. Hickey. This win Kept the Orono teams hopes alive and a return to Omemee on Thursday. On Thursday the Hornets were ôutmus- cled and out hustled by an entry from Beamsville who took a 6 - 0. Beamsville was a much larger team who just over powered Orono. Terry Coombs however again played a brilliant game in the Orono nets keeping the game respectable. Orono Weekly Times, March 31, 1976 - 9 CAMSPORT AND NEW DUTCH OVEN TYKES The OronO Camsport Tykes played the New Dutch Oven team Friday night, March 26, to a 2-1 win. Eric Dreslinski and Brad Roberts scored the two goals with an assist going to John Cowan. Scott Irwin scored the goal for the New Dutch Oven team.
