The above group of Public School children were entered in a public speaking contest held at Lockharts the later part of last week. It was the Semi-finals for the Clarke area. The winner of the contest will speak at the finals being held at the Pines Senior Public School on Monday, April 26th. Miss Nicole Winter Winter belt of Lockharts was the winner. OPENS ITS DOORS VISUAL ARTS CENTRE The Visual Arts Centre will open its doors on April 21 at 8:00 p.m. and invites the general public to come on in to learn more about the centre as well as entering discussion on the future direction of the Centre. it has been pointed out in a news release that the Centre has just completed a most successful winter program and is now well into its spring and' summer schedule of events. It points out that the program appeals to all age groups with introductory and advanced courses. Included in the spring program is a course in pottery as well as a raku course for advanced potters. There will also be a children's art and photography course. The Centre is also initiating the "Newcastle Game", a project to explore the local environment through art and athletics. The first event of the games is entitled "Expedition "Expedition 76" involving photographic photographic recording of local roads, creeks, buildings etc. for the eventual production of a map of unique local resources, cycling tours, scenic vistas arid many other features of the Town. Brunton Community Services Officer Still working for indoor pool As a result of two public meetings held to discuss the addition to Bowmanville High School of a Community Indoor Indoor Pool and squash courts, a committee has been formed to get the ball rolling and the water splashing. The current members are Mr. Bob Stevens, Stevens, Dr. H. B. Rundle, Mr. David Cook, Dr. John Higgin- son, Mr. Ted Samuel, Mr. Wm. Bagnell, Mr. Merrill Brown, Mr, Jack Brough, and Mrs. Pat Rundle. No person shall light, ignite or start or allow or cause to be lighted, ignited or started a fire of any kind whatsoever in theopen air in the Town of Newcastle without first having obtained a written permit to do so from the Fire Chief. 2. Any person who lights, or causes to be lit, a fire in the Town of Newcastle, shall place and keep a competent person at all times in charge of the fire while it is burning or smouldering and shall provide that person with efficient appliances and equipment in order, to prevent the fire from getting beyond control or causing damage sr tiecoming *>«igerous. 3. This by-law shall not apply, to small confined fires used to cook food on grills or barbecues. ( 4. By-Law No. 2450, Tdwnship of Darlington is hereby repealed. 5.
