■M: Com m ittee agrees to turn over 1200 acres of Durham forest The Management Committee Committee for-the Region of Durham gave . their approval to a ■proposal to turn over some 1200 acres of forest land to the , Ganaraska Region Conservation Conservation Authority. This recommendation recommendation will now go before the Regional council. R. C. Forrester, chairman of the Ganaraska Authority and Bob McClure, Resources Manager met with the Management Management Committee last Wednesday proposing that the Region turn over the 1200 acre Durham Forests in the former Township of Clarke to the Conservation Authority. It was pointed out at the meeting that the Authority now owns some 8,700 acres in the area and adjacent to the Durham Forests. In some cases, said Forrester, you have to pass over Durham forests to get to Authority lands and visa versa. The chairman stated that the Authority along with the Ministry of Natural Resources Resources had embarked on a study of the forest for multiple use and for souriti planning it was desirable that the Durham and Ganaraska Forests be, under ope ownership. The study taking some two years will compile the resources resources of the forest, the wildlife, habitat and water resources. The study will result in a plan for multiple use, recreation, wild life and forestry. It was pointed out that the environmental character character and integrity of the fores.t, is to be maintained. PUBLIC HEARINGS R. Forrester said tnat the Authority was planning a number of public hearings at which time interest groups would be able to present their views concerning the multiple use of the forests. He also pointed out that it was noted that the Region had stated a similar plan for the northern area in their Fourth Planning Discussion paper. It would be impossible to come up with a master plan if the land remain divided, he said. Bob McClure stated that Agree to land purchase from old Kirby school The Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Educa- policing in the forest was becoming a problem and with extended use this problem could increase. He also pointed out that the Town of Newcastle would receive taxes from the Authority Authority which are now paid by the Region to the Town. This amounts to some $1400.00 a year. The Authority has approved to pay the transfer costs of the 1200 acres. The matter is expected to' be before the Regional council council within the next two weeks. AUPTIORS' REPORT To the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education We have examined the Balance Sheet of the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education as at December 31, 1975 and the Revenue Fund Statement of Operations and the Capital Fund Statement of Operations for the year then ended. In our opinion these Financial Statements present fairly the financial position of the Board as at December 31,1975 and the results of its operations for the year then ended, in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted for Ontario school boards applied on a basis consistent with that of the preceding year except for the cha'nge in accounting for fixed assets as described in Note 1*.
